Without a doubt, the Lot River is one of France's most spectacular fishing spots, especially around the beautiful town of Puy l'Evêque, which is only a 5-minute drive from La Bergerie.

Pisciculture -Étangs de pêche du Moulin de Guiral (approx. 15-minute drive) offers a fantastic fishing experience for all ages. Lessons can also be provided, including an introduction to fishing, fly fishing, and carp fishing. It's ideal for experienced anglers or beginners, and you can fish for carp, trout and roach from the riverbank.
You don't need a licence at Moulin de Guiral – fish for free and only pay for what you catch. They provide a full service and you can return to La Bergerie with your fish cleaned, ready for the BBQ. 🦈

If you plan to fish elsewhere, you may need a permit and there are also fishing seasons, depending on the category of water. Check the regulations before planning your trip to avoid disappointment.

Other activities nearby include tennis, golf, rock climbing, horseback riding, mountain biking (VTT), and canoeing or kayaking. Angling enthusiasts can take advantage of the calm waters of the Lot river, fishing for black bass, perch, carp, and many more.

Over the coming months I'll be sharing our latest Ferme du Bourdicou project with you - creating a commercial cut flower garden.
𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝗶𝘁 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁
Last year, following a family bereavement, we went to visit my sister in New Hampshire where we knew we would be enveloped in a blanket of love. (Side benefits - she’s an amazing cook, has the most stunning lakeside home and her husband is the most attentive host!). They organised a trip out to Full Moon Farm - www.fullmoonfarmnh.com - and no-one could have predicted how much of an impact this would have on our future.
It was wonderful to hear the owners' story - how they stopped growing and selling vegetables due to climate change and instead, embraced growing flowers. I was as excited about sharing his story as he was. It was pure joy.
Back home, remembering the beautiful peonies, my daughter suggested planting some around the farm. One thing led to another. My love of biodiversity to help prevent climate change, the bees and the beauty. 💐 Before long I was planning a full on cut flower garden.

𝗕𝗲́𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗮 𝗺𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗲𝘃𝗮𝗹 𝘃𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗮𝗴𝗲 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮𝗺𝗮𝘇𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗻𝗼𝗿𝗮𝗺𝗶𝗰 𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗟𝗼𝘁 𝗩𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘆.
As well as its breath-taking scenery, Bélaye is also home to some remarkable historical architecture, including the remains of two castles, the old Boutet house (a medieval keep), Saint-Saignant's Church and the old presbytery.
For one of the most incredible gourmet dining experiences, you have to try 𝗟𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝘂𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗱𝗲 𝗕𝗲́𝗹𝗮𝘆𝗲 - 𝗧𝗮𝗽𝗮𝘀 𝗕𝗮𝗿, 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗮𝗻𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝗻𝗲 𝗖𝗮𝘃𝗲.
The restaurant is open all year-round serving tapas paired with local refreshments. Inside, there's a warm, inviting atmosphere, ideal for dining and sharing a bottle of wine from their extensive cellar. In the warmer weather, dine out if you can get a table, because the outside terrace has the most incredible views across the Lot Valley.

Honestly, we can't recommend it enough. La Bergerie Gite guests who have dined at Le Couvent also give it a 10/10! 👍
