Back in January 2019, I quit a corporate job managing a finance team in a big firm with a very decent salary. I wanted to turn a passion that was previously a week-end hobby into a full time activity: offering historic tours! Work colleagues, friends and even family members thought I was nuts! They were absolutely right!

Here we are six years later: 3,000 five stars reviews on Airbnb alone with a 4,98 out of 5 overall rating! Not counting all my other reviews on Google, Facebook, Meet Up, TripAdvisor, Viator, Context, Tours by Locals...

Sorry for bragging, but I do not know any other tour guide specialising in history who has as many reviews and mind you, got them within six years...

I am incredibly grateful to all the participants who took the time to post these reviews or sent me private messages! I'm having the time of my life doing what I love, discussing history, meeting nice people every day! There is a saying in the Holy book: "Ask and you shall receive"... Amen!

Back in February and well into the month of March, palm trees appeared on the Place de la Concorde, giving the formal royal square a very unusual appearance.

The city of Paris apparently wanted to "experiment" with a new esthetics for the location. It turns out they forgot to ask for the validation of the ministry of culture that manages the national landmarks.

End of March, the trees were removed as fast as they appeared...
Rumour has it there's another plan to make the Place de la Concorde very green in the future! Stay tuned!

Meet Giovanni & Mirella from Canada and Louisa & Christy from Hong Kong who joined me on the Napoleon tour! Louisa is a returning visitor and she brought her daughter with her this time. Thank you so much!

I could run my Napoleon tour every day! I do not get tired of debunking the myths related to the great man. I will tell you how the British, European and even the American view of the man are distorted and inacurate! Money back guaranteed if you don't have a great time!

There is a new upscale bakery/pastry & coffee shop in town! "Les copains" are going to be your buddies! That's because "Copains" means exactly that!

You will find the usual pastries with interesting twists such as nuts sprinkled on top. They seem to be nuts about nuts... They pop up again on their bread. The coffee was strong and delicious too. This is not watered down coffee…

The « Copains » are a great alternative to the famous rip off chain that overcharges a ton of money for bad tasting coffee and crap pastries. Ouch! You know who they are…

The « Copains » have already opened several locations in the four corners of Paris. The shops' decor will strike you with their very stylish design, they might as well be fashion boutiques! Bon appétit!

Disclaimer: Please rest assured I have absolutely zero sponsor benefits in my food recommendations. They are genuinely places I have tried and tested and recommend. Thank you!

The Saint-Augustin church with its spotless clean restored façade and its eclectic mix of architectural styles draws attention! The thirteen statues are easy to identify: Jesus surrounded by the twelve apostles. The porch is decorated with three scenes representing virtues, and made of enamelled lava tiles with vibrant colours.

If you happen to walk by the 8th arrondissement, make sure to stop and have a look inside! The gilded cast iron rose window is a hint that this monument is rather "recent". A church built between 1861 to 1871 qualifies for "recent" in Paris!

This is the work of Victor Baltard, an Architect who pioneered building with steel. That is precisely the material he used for the inner structure of the church, as you will see upon entering. Do who know commissioned this church as a resting place for princes of the imperial family?

If you wanted to go on a pilgrimage from Paris to Santiago de Compostella, you would start your journey at the foot of the Saint-Jacques Tower. The Saint's statue stands at the top of the tower and he's probably amazed he's still there in spite of what happened to the neighborhood!

This belfry used to be part of the Saint-Jacques church built in the early 1500's. Most of the church was demolished during the French Revolution, however an architect managed to get the tower spared. One of his arguments was that its height (approx. 53 meters = 175 feet) could be useful.

This man was probably aware that back in the 1600's, Blaise Pascal (mathematician, physicist, inventor, philosopher and theologian among other things...) had used the tower to make experiments on gravity. Since it's now been restored, it is possible to visit the tower, climb some 300 steps to the top and do some more experiments! At the bottom, you will be greeted by the statue of Blaise Pascal still brainstorming on new ideas...

When Art Nouveau blossomed in the early 1900's, it did not receive the support and appreciation of all art critics. Some mocked this movement and called it "noodle art"... This building was designed by Alfred Wagon in 1905.

This is far from the elegant and refined designs of Master Architect, Hector Guimard. Whenever I show this building, the comments I hear relate more to pastries than architecture!

And then I remember what Salvador Dali said: "the terrifying and edible beauty of Art Nouveau"...

Have you seen this building in Paris and what do you think of it?
