And that's a wrap on our 2026 via ferrata season! 🧗‍♂️

One last adventure in the Southern French Alps, with exposed rock faces, suspended bridges, plenty of vertical metres and some very happy faces along the way.

What makes this final trip particularly special? Hearing that someone who had never tried via ferrata before came away feeling supported, confident and proud of what they'd achieved.

There’s a lot happening in the mountains that you might never realise your guide is paying attention to. 🏔️

Animal tracks can tell a story. A snowy slope can reveal clues about avalanche risk. A frozen waterfall looks very different when you know how to read the ice. And while you’re enjoying the day, your guide is also keeping an eye on the group and drawing on their knowledge of the route.

Because guiding isn’t just about knowing the way. It’s about reading the mountains, sharing experience and looking after the people you’re exploring them with. So you can concentrate on the best bit: enjoying the adventure.

Taking your walking poles on a snowshoe holiday? Don’t forget about the baskets. ❄️

The small baskets you normally use for walking can sink much deeper into soft snow, making your poles far less useful when you need them.

The good news? You probably don’t need a whole new pair of poles. Many walking poles have interchangeable baskets, so you can simply swap the smaller ones for wider snow baskets before your trip.

A tiny bit of preparation that can make a big difference once you’re out in the snow.

If downhill skiing isn’t really your thing, that doesn’t mean skiing isn’t for you.

Cross-country skiing swaps ski lifts and downhill runs for snowy trails, forests and valleys, with the journey becoming just as much a part of the experience as the destination. It can be a completely different way to experience winter in the mountains.

One of the simplest snowshoeing tips… but one your bum will definitely thank you for. 😂
A small foam sit mat weighs next to nothing, takes up barely any space in your backpack, and gives you somewhere dry and insulated to sit when you stop along the way. And you don’t even need to buy one, an old foam camping mat can easily be cut down to size.

Small bit of kit. Big difference in the snow.
