We've given over part of our children's playground over to the wildflowers and grasses this May as bees and insects need all the help they can get. James did mow a wibby wobbly path through the middle for little ones to explore. I think there is still enough room for the volleyball/badminton net and football or game of petanque.

One thing we always had to take home from our holidays in France was Coings/quince jelly as just couldn't find in UK. Now not only can we buy it the fruit is easy to find too. So first go at homemade.

This weekend we visited one of the many local festivals, the Retro Fair at St Aubin de Bois. This one held dances, rotisserie, fireworks and stalls with bygone crafts and on the second day a show and parade of vehicles from early 19th century up to the 1960s.
From next weekend it's the Dahlia Festival in Coutances until 25th September Then in Gavray we have the enormous Foire St Luc in mid October.

People come to stay with us for all sorts of reasons including the obvious attractions of the beautiful, sandy beaches or the quiet and calm of the countryside. However, some come because they have bought a classic French car!

Despite a late arrival this year our first swallow chicks have fledged today are are showing their flying skills round the courtyard. We still have a few weeks available at the start of July and the end of August when you can enjoy them and the other local wildlife at La Baleine.
