Like London, there is now a walking route around Paris, the GR2024 in honour of the Olpympic Games in 2024.

We are still ticking along thinking about our City Treks project. Looks like others in Sydney think its a good idea too :-) Working on a saleable product including all accommodation and transfers and a super set of notes and maps for 2018...

Aboriginal sites, a nudist beach, guns that held France, Russia and Japan at bay, an oval named after a beauty queen, a house built by a man who wanted an Australian aristocracy....

I'm Kesia, Sian's niece, and I was the one walking the 100km trek in Paris this year. I had never done such thing before and it was both mentally and physically challenging. However, it went really well, and I discovered Paris differently. I didn't feel the usual hurry of this city and was able to enjoy every moment. I recommend walking through big cities, that's how you'll meet people and find spots other than ultra-touristic ones.

It wasn't super sunny that's why my photos aren't bright. It was nice to discover the gardens of Versailles !

The rest of the London City Trek photos. I have to say I wasn't a very dedicated photographer, particularly day 2 and 3 when I was distracted by people walking with me :-) Very nice to have company and information about the places I was walking through. The canals, the Hasidic Jewish community, the docklands. I soon figured out that London is pretty flat - and so understood the concept of the protected view! There are so many cultural references, so much history, the traces of changing geography and political/economic links with the rest of the world. So much here that no tour or trek could possibly pick and choose for you. What we aim for is that each City Trekker can walk through London and dive into the things that speak to them. What are the literary references that touched you, museums that inspired you, architectural wonders that awed you? Its all here to see and experience as you walk through England's great city.

Day 1: What a place to start - Hampton Court - home of Henry VIII and many others. For the rugby lovers Twickenham stadium is just nearby, as is Heathrow Airport, allowing people to fly in and start their walk just nearby. I didn't go in but skirted through "The Wilderness" and then along the Thames through Home Park for a view from the end of the Long Water. Continued along past barges, weirs & Eel Pie Island to Ham House. Would have loved afternoon tea at the gorgeous Petersham Nursery but it was Saturday and crowded, so I settled for a scone at Penrose House in Richmond Park. Then on through Wimbledon Common to my bed for the night with Teresa and Peter (thank you so much).

Walking through Sydney definitely highlights it's links to nature and the glory of its natural setting...

Each area, town and city needs to understand what makes its natural setting special and why it is important to ensure these qualities are not taken for granted.

Day 8: The sun returned for our walk from The Spit to Manly and around North Head. Plenty of helpers along to carry both the pink pack and some of its contents. Again a beautiful walk through the bush. Hidden beaches and fishing spots. Aboriginal engravings. Fabulous houses on the waterfront. I'll miss those Sydney angophoras with their red and twisted branches. Shelley Beach is surely one of Sydney's magic spots and a fabulous end to to this week. The views to the remaining northern beaches suggest many more pleasures for those with extra time.

Day 7: Started early in the city. Morning light was the best before the clouds came over. Good walking weather though. Breakfasted in good company at Thelma and Louise, Neutral Bay wharf. Collected more walkers at the Taronga Zoo ferry stop. Gorgeous views from all around this area - very different feel from the southern side of the harbour. Endless new views and perspectives. Finished at the ever beautiful Balmoral.
