Day 50-54

Well that a wrap, it’s hometime 🚐🚐

We been avoiding the storms for the last couple of weeks but they seem to be chasing us so we are homeward bound, it’s been a blast, we love exploring new places, finding hidden gems and revisit places we love.

We’ve stayed in 39 different park ups

Driven just over 4,000 miles and not one single toll road

Walked god knows how many miles

Had my shorts and T shirts on a handful of times

Driven through flood, snow, sleet, hailstones and on the odd occasion beautiful sunshine

Most of all, the three of us had some great times, freedom on the road in our van Frank, can’t wait until the next one

Day 45-50

The Beautiful Basque Country

Well what a few days it’s been, once again we’ve had all weathers but it’s not stopped us from having a wonderful time,
We left the Beautiful city of Avila, drove through the Sierra de la Demanda mountain range to a small village Canales de la Sierra, the storms still chasing us and the rivers at bursting point. We needed to get off the mountain.
We drove through the Rioja region, full of grape vines as you can imagine and then finally into one of our favourite places “The Basque Country”, there something special about this area, its rich in so many things but if you love food then you will love it, it’s pintxos paradise, all washed down with wine , beer , cider or vermouth, we stayed inland in the town Elorria a nice free park up on the edge of town. The next morning we drove to the coastal town of Getaria, a fishing village where we had more Pintxos, then onto Hondarribia on the border of France where the beaches are Amazing. We then moved on to the Col de Bardin, a place in the mountains that borders Spain and France, a fascinating place in the mountains where all the French go to buy cheap Spanish products, we loved it and now at least we are away from the Severe weather of Spain and Portugal which has been devastated by storms

Day 42-45

Avila to Haza

After a day of driving through floods, sleet, snow and fog, we eventually arrived at the UNESCO Heritage city of Avila and the Sun came out, its colder now we are North of Madrid but it is winter time after all, we had a great day of exploring and lots of walking and had prime view of the walled city once it was dark.
Today we headed of to a tiny Hamlet called Haza in the province of Burgos famous for nesting vultures, wow what a place this is .
Only a few permanent residents live here but they have a gorgeous Posada, which was welcoming and warm with a great wine selection.Biscuit is loving every minute in Frank, lots of walks and socialising with other doggy mates, she’s living her dream

Day 40-42

The storms are following us

Well the storms have hit much worse than we thought, we have been lucky to be parked up in safe ( ish ) areas although we have had night of two where the van has rocked so much I thought we were going over. We are trying to head North but more storms forecast this week. We have a break in the weather today, staying on a free Aire in luz mid Portugal which even has free electric…. Will keep you all posted as we move North in the coming days

Ayamonte and Cabanas de Tavira

Well it’s been a rough few days with the storms but managed to get out and about. We nipped over the border to Ayamonte in Spain, fuel is so cheap in Spain worked out about £1.06 a litre. we are back in Portugal now and will moving north in the next day or two once the rain calms down

Day 34-37

Like everywhere in the world right now we are riding the storms, wind, rain , floods, it’s everywhere but on a personal level we both really like being tucked up in “Frank the van” staying warm, eating hearty food and getting out for walks when the weather gives us a break, we are moving back to the coast for a couple of days and then will decide on our next destination, some of the rivers you see on the photos are actually roads and walks we tried to attempt

Day 32-33

Alferce

Still inland slightly from the coastline ( which have weather warnings as the storms are rolling in) we found a brilliant park up provided free by the village with all facilities. We did the boardwalk and suspension bridge this morning before it started raining. Biscuit was unsure at first but got into her stride on the suspension bridge as it did move a lot, a great walk finished off with a coffee in the local bar
