🏛️ The Riviera Couple’s Compromise: Antibes
For when one of you wants cute cobblestones… and the other just wants a sunbed

The easiest way to ruin a day? Forcing a museum person to bake on the beach… or dragging a “beach person” through two hours of paintings. Antibes fixes this — everything is 5 minutes apart, so you can each do your thing and meet up without wasting time.

🏛️ Track A: The Culture Lover
9:00 — Wander Marché Provençal (grab honey or socca).
10:00 — Explore the tiny, flower‑filled lanes of Safranier.
11:00 — Visit Musée Picasso right above the sea.

☀️ Track B: The Sunbed Lover
9:00 — Morning swim at Plage de la Gravette under the ramparts.
10:30 — Walk to Plage de la Salis for soft sand + mountain views.

🤝 Where You Meet (and both win)
1:00 — Lunch in Old Town: Le Brulot or Café Jardin
3:30 — Swap: Culture goes to the beach, Sunbed goes for gelato + boutiques.
6:00 — Aperitivo on the ramparts with a chilled rosé.

💡 Easy Logistics
Take the TER to Gare d’Antibes — you’re 8 minutes from everything. Zero parking drama.

Which track are you choosing: Culture or Sunbed? Tag your partner

Choose Your Riviera Morning 🌞

🌈 For pastel‑lovers
Villefranche‑sur‑Mer at 8:30 — the harbour is quiet, the colours are soft, and the bay looks like a painting. Grab a croissant and watch the town wake up.
🌅 For sunrise chasers
Cap Ferrat lighthouse — short walk, big views, and you’ll have the Mediterranean almost entirely to yourself.
🍊 For market people
Cours Saleya, Nice (opens 6am, Tue–Sun for fresh produce, Mon for antiques!) — vendors setting up, locals shopping, fresh fruit everywhere. Best time to see the real Nice before the crowds.
👣 For crowd‑free Monaco
The Rock at 9am — wander the old town, cathedral, and gardens while it’s peaceful. By 11:00 the tour buses arrive and the vibe changes completely.

If you’re beach‑hopping around Villefranche, Nice, or Antibes, here’s the truth: you don’t need a list of 20 spots. You just need the right ones.

Villefranche
Marinières for the easy, classic “step off the train and you’re on the beach” vibe. Ange Gardien if you want a quieter little cove under the pine trees.

Nice
Castel for that postcard curve of the bay and clear water. La Réserve when you want the rocky, local spot where people just jump straight in.

Antibes
Salis for soft sand and calm water. Garoupe for the tucked‑away cove and the start of the Cap d’Antibes coastal walk.

What a Good Riviera Day Actually Looks Like ☀️

A perfect Riviera day isn’t five towns, two trains, and a sprint to make a dinner reservation.

It’s slow coffee.
One destination before the heat hits.
A long shaded lunch you don’t rush.
Swimming or reading by the sea.
Golden hour when the whole coast softens.

That’s it. Not impressive — just genuinely enjoyable.

If you left the Riviera thinking “beautiful, but exhausting,” you probably tried to collect it instead of living it.

The Riviera Mistake Everyone Makes

People arrive on the French Riviera with a list that looks like a marathon: Nice → Monaco → Èze → Villefranche → Antibes → maybe Saint‑Tropez (before they realize it's 3.5 hours away on a good day).

By day three they’re sweating on a platform in a linen shirt put on for photos, clutching a warm bottle of water, wondering why their holiday feels like a triathlon.

If you want the version that actually feels like a holiday — slow mornings, one town per day, long lunches you don’t cut short — here’s the guide I wrote after watching people burn themselves out every summer:

The French Riviera is not hard to enjoy. But when it comes to French Riviera slow travel, it's hard to enjoy well if you're trying to do everything.

✨ Choose Your Beach Day (Based on What You Actually Want)
Not all Riviera beaches are the same. Here's how to pick the right one

You want clear water and don't need actual sand
→ Villefranche-sur-Mer. Sheltered bay, calm water, pastel buildings in the background. The beach is gritty but the water is the clearest on the coast.

You want sand and don't mind a crowd
→ Antibes (Plage de la Gravette). Sandy, right in the old town, good for families. Get there early if you want a spot.

You want quiet and are willing to work for it
→ Cap Ferrat (the hidden coves). No facilities, no signage, just cliffs and clear water. You have to walk to find them. That's the point.

You want to feel like a local and don't need a sunbed
→ Nice (the free section near the port). Pebbles, yes. But the locals swim there for a reason — the water is clean and the vibe is zero performance.
