THE PEOPLE BEHIND THE MAPS: Antoine from USE-IT Metz
• Name! Age! Occupation! Preferred career as a child!
Antoine / 27 / I wanted to be an astrophysicist but instead I work in an organic food grocery store and sell tomatoes to little old ladies
• A weird fact about yourself:
I can sort of dislocate my thumb and make a catapult with it.
• The book that changed your life?
My life has yet to be changed by a book, but The Martian Chronicles (Ray Bradbury) is one of my favourites.
• How did your USE-IT story begin?
I met Corina a little while back, we danced on the roof of my car one night and became friends. She discovered USE-IT maps on a trip and told me that she wanted to do the same for Metz.
• The hippest spot in town!
Probably the Place Saint-Jacques, which is hip but in a bad way. Hip doesn’t mean anything anyway.
• Most annoying behaviour of tourists in Metz?
I think they behave quite well in Metz. Problem is, they have to learn some French before coming because everybody’s so bad at English.
• Favourite drink in Metz?
Schnaps (Mirabelle, poire), picon-bière, beer, wine. And beer. We like them all, as long as they’re good. Beer.
• What is on your bucket list?
Travel more, visit Asia, attain enlightenment then retire in the woods and have the least possible impact on my surroundings.
• Polaroid camera or DSLR?
Polaroid for taking pictures of my butt and giving them to people and DSLR for pictures I’d like to keep forever and never look at them.
• iPhone 8 or Nokia 3310?
Things you can do with a Nokia 3310: hammer a nail, knock a bear out, door holder, glass breaker, bottle opener, conversation starter… Easiest choice of my life.
• The biggest issue on publishing a map in your city?
Money.
• The best tip for starting up a USE-IT project?
Money.
