DINING IN - DINING OUT

One of our favourite holiday questions, do you head out into the village, or stay in and settle down?

Eating out here opens up a wonderful variety of places within walking distance. For dinner we often recommend La Grange for traditional Savoyard dishes.

La Chaudanne for classic French with a really cool bar downstairs, and L’Etale .morzine with its huge menu (book ahead in peak season).

For something more relaxed you might choose The Bec Jaune microbrewery or burgers at O Chalet .

Eating in is a different kind of holiday comfort, with plenty of ways to make it special. You can book private chefs like Chef Morzine (Drew) or Black Stag Food (Kayleigh).

If you want a more relaxed arrival meal, pre-cooked options from Bon App arrive ready to heat and serve.

Most people mix both during their stay, a couple of nights out, a couple of cosy nights in. That balance, we find, is what makes a holiday really feel like a holiday.

PISTE ESSENTIALS

Everyone has those things they can’t head to the slopes without, these are mine.

1) Loose change for an emergency espresso at the tiny mountain restaurants that still don’t take cards. I run entirely on caffeine between 9 am and 4 pm on the mountain.

2) Good merino wool socks, no one needs cold feet.

3) A merino base layer, the difference between feeling heroic at 3 pm or quietly falling apart on the side of a blue run.

4)A good buff, warmth, wind blocker, goggle cleaner, makeshift hat… don’t leave home without it.

And finally

5) if you're skiing with kids, many, many snacks.

What are your must-have items for a ski week?

LIMITED JANUARY AVAILABILITY

We've got very limited availability for January with only three weeks left across our three chalets. If you're thinking of booking for the start of the season, now's the time!

It's possibly the worst kept secret in resort at the moment and everyone is expecting a pre-season opening announcement any day now. There's a huge amount of snow, more forecast next week and the temperatures look to be staying low. Looks like a cracking start to the season, don't miss out.

LIFT PASS LOWDOWN

Les Gets & Morzine pass or the full Portes du Soleil pass, which one is right for you?

LES GETS AND MORZINE PASS

Les Gets and Morzine are easily accessed from Morzine via the Pleney téléphérique, although the Nyon téléphérique is a brilliant starting point if you want to get over to Chamossière and the Les Gets side quickly.

The majority of the runs are tree-lined, calm and really pretty, and you’re never far from a restaurant or a drink stop. The Nyon plateau is a lovely place to watch the eagles being flown or to walk out onto the viewing platform at the top of the Pointe de Nyon. The runs and freeride area from the top of Chamossière are epic on a fresh powder day and often get overlooked.

If you’ve got lots of lessons booked on the Pleney, either for you or the kids, or if it’s your first time skiing in a while and you want to keep things simple, the Les Gets & Morzine pass is perfect. It gives you plenty of terrain to explore without needing to plan big journeys across the valley.

PORTES DU SOLEIL PASS

The full pass gives you access to the entire area, including Les Gets and Morzine, as well as Avoriaz, Châtel and the Swiss resorts beyond. Much of Avoriaz and the Super Morzine side of the valley is very beginner-friendly, and the Mini-Stash park is brilliant for kids, with treehouses, picnic spots and small jumps.

If you’re confident, love covering distance or want to ski through Avoriaz, Switzerland and the high alpine areas, then the full Portes du Soleil pass opens everything up. It’s a vast playground with long, varied runs a huge amount of off-piste potential as well as patrolled free ride areas and snow parks.

Whichever you choose, let us know what kind of skiing you enjoy and we’ll happily point you in the right direction.
