Hidden in the 5th arrondissement, there is a Roman amphitheatre that most Parisians have never visited 👀

The Arènes de Lutèce were built in the 1st century AD, when Paris was still called Lutèce and was a Roman settlement. At its peak, the amphitheatre could seat up to 15,000 people, gladiator fights, theatre performances, public gatherings 🏛️

Today you can walk right into it. Sit where Roman spectators sat 2,000 years ago. Watch locals play pétanque on the same ground where gladiators once fought 🗡️

Most people visit Saint-Sulpice and never find it. But tucked inside, in the Chapel of the Holy Angels, are three monumental frescoes by Eugène Delacroix, completed just two years before his death in 1863 🧑‍🎨

And here's what makes it even more extraordinary: Delacroix painted all of this while living just 200 metres away, on Rue de Furstemberg 🌿 His studio is now the Musée Delacroix, preserved exactly as he left it

Most people walk past the Medici Fountain in the Jardin du Luxembourg and see a beautiful, peaceful spot. But if you know where to look, it tells a completely different story 📝

At the far end of the fountain, a giant figure looms over two lovers : Polyphemus the Cyclops, caught in the act of discovering Acis and Galatea, two lovers he can never have 💫

Some say that the Polyphemus statue depicts Marie catching her husband with his mistresses at court; others believe that the fountain represents her tears after losing him. Which do you prefer? ❤️‍🩹
