From today... back to December 25, 1776.

With the future of the Revolution hanging in the balance, General George Washington faced a critical moment.

On a cold Christmas night, Washington and his troops crossed the icy Delaware River in darkness, launching a surprise attack against Hessian forces in Trenton, New Jersey. With the support of his close friend and trusted advisor, Brigadier General Hugh Mercer, Washington’s risky plan delivered a much-needed victory that renewed hope for the American cause.

The crossing became an iconic moment of the Revolutionary War, a reminder that a single bold decision could change the course of history.

Did you know that Henry Knox transported 59 cannons over 300 miles through snow and ice during the American Revolution?

In 1775, following orders from General George Washington, Henry Knox led one of the most remarkable logistical missions in American history. After capturing Fort Ticonderoga, Knox and his team hauled 59 cannons more than 300 miles across frozen rivers, mountains, and rugged terrain to Cambridge, Massachusetts.

From today... back to March 5, 1770

What is now a street in downtown Boston was once the site of one of the defining moments that ignited the American Revolution.

As tensions between British troops and Boston colonists reached a breaking point, a confrontation near the Customs House turned deadly. Five colonists were killed, including Crispus Attucks, whose death made him one of the first martyrs of the Revolutionary cause.

Did you know the US dollar sign ($) may have its origins in the American Revolution?

Irish-born merchant Oliver Po***ck played a vital role in supporting the Patriot cause. Based in New Orleans, he acted as a financial agent and liaison, helping Spanish Governor Bernardo de Gálvez move Spanish silver dollars, supplies, and other aid to the American revolutionaries.

Po***ck is also widely credited with creating the modern dollar sign. In his account books, he abbreviated the Spanish peso as "ps." Over time, his handwriting merged the letters into the symbol we recognize today: $. His notation was later adopted by American financier Robert Morris and became the standard symbol for the U.S. dollar.

From today... back to South Carolina, 1780.

By the summer of 1780, the American Revolution had entered a new chapter. After the fall of Charleston, British forces occupied much of South Carolina, shifting the center of the war to the South.

As the conflict spread through the countryside, Loyalist troops led by officers such as Captain Christian Huck sought to crush the Patriot resistance. Homes were burned, suspected rebels were punished, and civilians were intimidated, turning neighbors against one another and bringing the realities of war to local communities.

There’s a hidden detail in this Revolutionary scene most people miss...

If you look closely in the background, you'll spot two lanterns glowing in the tower of Old North Church.

These weren't just lights—they were a secret signal.

On the night of Paul Revere's famous ride, they had arranged for lanterns to be displayed in the church steeple. One lantern meant the British were coming by land. Two lanterns meant they were crossing the Charles River by bo at—the famous "one if by land, two if by sea."

That night, two lanterns illuminated the tower, acting as an alarm that helped alert riders across the river and spread the warning that British troops were on the move.
