Happy Bastille Day Paris History Lovers!!! 🥳

They also know that if there is enough fuel and oxygen, the size of the spark is largely immaterial. In 2019, one cigarette butt- or perhaps it was an electrical fault- set to flames a “forest” made up of 750 tons of wood which had felled way back in the 12th and 13th centuries from 1,300 trees. This is of course not a testimony to the dangers of oxygen. Far from it. Despite being constantly surrounded by the stuff, I rarely feel under threat from spontaneous self-immolation. So too for the French Revolution! In 1789, hunger and misery were as common as air. They would fan the flames but counted for little in isolation. Fear was the spark, but it was only a spark. And the fuel? The most important ingredient of all? It was the meeting of the Estates General...
