That was a happy couple of hours spent at the Fondation Louis Vuitton for the David Hockney exhibition. I loved following the journey from the first painting he sold, the portrait of his father, through the intense colours of his Yorkshire and Normandy landscapes to the top of the building and his set design and immersive installation. It felt like a privilege to see all of this together, knowing that despite such a vast creative output and long career, he has a painting in progress on his easel and wants to paint and work every day. I loved his description of the May hawthorn as though Champagne had been poured over the hedgerow and the attention he gives to every one of his subjects whether fruit tree of friend, and I felt uplifted to be surrounded by so much colour and light and beauty. If you’re in Paris this summer, I hope you’ll go!
