Blarney Castle in County Cork, Ireland, is one of Ireland's best known and most recognizable castles. The castle rose to popularity because of the Blarney Stone situated at the top. There are several stories regarding the origin and importance of the stone and the only thing that is certain is thousands of people over the years have made the climb to the top of the castle to take their turn at kissing the stone to get its reported gift of eloquence. The restoration work that goes on in European cathedrals is amazing. This column illustrates the discoloration that can occur from years of candle smoke. The lighter portion of the column is the original coloring of the column. This photo was taken at the cathedral in Chartres, France, but is indicative of the restoration work that occurs periodically throughout the continent.

Ireland Day 8 Part 2 - We came full circle this afternoon and arrived back in Dublin. After saying goodbye to our absolutely fabulous guides, we had the rest of the evening free to explore on our own. A couple of us went to the EPIC Emigration Museum (which I highly recommend) and then had a fantastic dinner experience at the church where Arthur Guinness was married. It has been converted into a restaurant and bar. There was also some live music and traditional dancing. We even found the Murphy's ice cream shop to finish up a fantastic trip together!

Ireland Day 8 Part 1 - We made a short stop in the adorable town of Adare this morning to check out the Trinitarian church, thatched roof cottages, and park before heading to Monasterevin for lunch. I can't believe we have already made it to the last full day of this trip. I am not ready for it to end! 😢
