Checked out this exhibition the other day - “Déboutonner la mode” – literally, unbuttoning fashion.
It is all about buttons! It’s the first time the role of buttons in clothing has been explored and it is absolutely amazing.
It on at the Arts Decoratifs museum but in cooperation with Galliera (the fashion museum).
It is over two floors and traces the button as a fashion item from pre-Revolution (when it was an accessory mainly on men’s clothing) right through to now with all the top designers.
It’s hard to imagine buttons as an art object until you see this. I loved it! It’s also on until July 19.
For the first time, the “Déboutonner la mode” exhibition at Les Arts Décoratifs is unveiling a collection of over 3,000 buttons unique in the world, and also featuring a selection of more than 100 female and male garments and accessories by emblematic couturiers such as Paul Poiret, Elsa Schiaparell…
