The Louvre, through the eyes of a stone carver.

Most visitors come for the paintings. You arrive with the man who carved part of the palace itself.

In the early 1990s, our master sculptor shaped the stone of the Pavillon Daru and the Pavillon Mollien. Today, he leads you eight centuries back, into the fortress of Philip Augustus, to read the masons' marks, the only signatures the builders ever left.

Upstairs, the Venus de Milo and the Winged Victory reveal what only a carver can see: the hidden joins in the marble, the drapery that seems wet, the balance that makes a figure feel alive.

The visit ends with a chisel placed in your own hands, and a piece of stone to carry home.
