It’s the season! March: the radish
Did you know it gave its name to the most powerful political party in France?
Under the Third Republic, the Radicals were nicknamed “les radis” (the radishes): pink on the outside, white on the inside, and always close to the butter.
Pink on the outside: they claimed to be left-wing. White on the inside: they governed from the right. Close to the butter: they never left power.
Today, the only radishes that matter no longer sit in Parliament. They’re at the market. And with butter and salt, they keep their promises 😉
