Let the festive spirit begin! 🥳🥳
The Christmas lights on the Champs-Élysées were officially switched on last Sunday, November 16. This event marks the real start of the holiday season in Paris, and many people came to watch it happen. This year, the city introduced something completely new: a sound and light show that plays across the entire avenue. Instead of only shining steadily, the trees now glow, pulse, and change colors in rhythm with music. The show runs every 30 minutes, so visitors can see it at almost any time of the evening.
The lighting system is much more advanced than in previous years. The new LEDs can be programmed to create different effects, like waves of color, moving sparkles, or bursts of light. This also helps save energy, since modern LEDs use far less electricity than older bulbs. Paris wanted the avenue to feel festive but also more environmentally responsible, so the lights are designed to be bright while using less power.
The illuminations start every night and stay on until midnight during the week, and until 1 a.m. on Fridays and Saturdays. That means the Champs-Élysées stays lively long into the night, with people walking, taking photos, and enjoying the atmosphere.
The 2025 Christmas lights will continue until January 4, giving everyone—locals and visitors—plenty of time to experience one of Paris’s most famous winter traditions.
