We are fully booked till October 22nd, but here's the good news....October is one of the best months on the Riviera, so why not treat yourself to a late, late summer break? (November can be lovely too!)
October is the ideal time for outdoor activities like hiking and cycling as it's cooler than summer. But it's also still beach weather if you like to swim. It's a great time to take a tour, for example to a historic house or on a steam train as places aren't so booked up and you can be more spontaneous. Prices are also lower than high season so it's possible to treat yourself to something like a day out on a boat. It's the ideal temperature to eat outside and sleep well at night. Need I go on?
All the following photos are taken in October. Previous guests who have come for October half term (Toussaint holidays in France) have been surprised and delighted with the variety of activities available at this time of year, mainly because of the mild temperatures and sunny days.

Happy 14 juillet, fête nationale!

The neighbouring town of Villeneuve-Loubet always outdoes all other towns in the area with its patriotic display of bleu, blanc, rouge. There's no escaping something's going on here!

It's so much fun when old friends come to stay. I've known Bryndis for about 40 years since we met as kids in Iceland and this was her overdue first visit to Lou Messugo with her husband Armann. They made the most of the glorious October weather to swim in the pool and sea! And we loved showing them some of our favourite places.

Tomorrow it's Fête de la Musique in France, one of the most fun festivals of the year.

On the longest day of the year we celebrate with music.
Music everywhere! All over France on street corners, in bars, in parks, in churches, in village squares, in town halls, in concert halls you'll find live bands, choirs, buskers, solo instrumentalists, acapella groups etc etc playing every genre of music possible. All ages involved, professional or amateur, all for free.

This spring we've been busy transforming part of the garden. The section of lawn directly in front of the terrace has always been a disaster, we've sowed grass at least 4 times and it never lasts long. So we had a lightbulb moment and decided to create a dry garden instead of lawn. It's much more suitable to our climate and much more sustainable, needing almost no water. So far it has attracted lots of butterflies and bees too.

The feedback has been very positive from everyone who's seen it, including 3 lots of returning guests.

Our latest review 10/10

It's so gratifying when guests enjoy my blog posts AND mention it in their review. It's true we've had an unusual amount of rain this spring but there's still so much to do here, come rain or shine.

Pickleball is definitely becoming a popular activity here too. We are lucky the local club allows non-members to play.

It's the annual rose festival "ExpoRose" in Grasse this weekend. One of my favourite local fêtes. The whole town is decorated with roses, with special cakes, sweets made of rose petals, bouquets of roses in shops, scaffolding wrappped in roses, rose water sprayed in the streets and a huge variety of rose bushes to buy.

Keith and Suzanne who loved their holiday at Lou Messugo in 2024 so much they booked to come back for 2 weeks in 2025. Can't get better than that!
