Bonjour! I have owned a second home in the artists‘ village of Saint Cirq Lapopie in SW France for 17 years. It was the home of Andre Breton, the founder of Surrealism movement. I have organized a very small and immersive tour of Art, Cuisine, and Culture from October 9-18, 2026 to benefit our local artists residency program. The group is limited to 9 individuals with three local guides, two local French residents and myself. All of us are donating 100% of our time, along with other locals who are contributing in diverse ways. In 2025, it was a huge success. One of my college classmates with a PhD in Art joined us and commented, “The highlight of my year! The trip was the best birthday present ever!!! Thank you for an unforgettable adventure! For my birthday this year, I would like to ask all my FB friends to look at the fundraiser I created and consider if you would like to go or if you know anyone who might (please consider sharing the link to your page as a gift to me?!) It is a luxury immersive tour of art, cuisine, and culture. Ideal for 4-6 friends or 2-3 couples, it funds an artists’ residency program in my village, Saint Cirq Lapopie, in SW France. For over 15 years I have lived in this cliff hanging, jaw dropping artists’ village. It is the home of Surrealism in the realm of cave paintings, truffles, sunflowers, and foie gras. As a resident, I had to find something to do other than being a tourist. To contribute to my community, I joined the board of an artists residency program founded by my next-door neighbor. The program began in 2020 with annual artists’ residencies and will culminate this year, the 100th anniversary of the Manifesto of Surrealism.
To raise money for her important work, I combined my inside knowledge of this unique and unspoiled area of France with my experience hosting groups in my own home. The result is a 9-day once-in-a-lifetime tour planned for September 2025 and based in France’s Premier “Most Beautiful Village.” The art encompasses a timeline beginning with cave paintings and running through medieval and renaissance architecture, Surrealism, Post Impressionism, and local modern artists. Academic professionals offer salons the night before some of the experiences. Lodging is in a beautiful medieval home. Included are markets, a private chef, Apero in other private homes, and a Cordon Bleu Chef-prepared dinner. Details are on our website Www.FriendsOfRadicale.org.

Funnily enough I found out yesterday that National Geographic Expeditions is offering a similarly luxurious tour in N Spain and SW France in September 2025. It focuses on Early Humans and cave paintings and includes a visit to our village and the cave of Pech Merle nearby, but no lodging in Saint Cirq. That is only possible for a group like ours staying in a private home inside our tiny village (talk to me about all the many other reasons our tour is better than Nat Geo! 😂)

In October, I went for a walk in the rural countryside of France. I ran across a natural spring that had created a pool in the stone basin. This is a photo of the reflection of the sky in the pool. It is a puzzle that is hard to understand. On the left is the edge of the stone basin holding the spring water. At the top, the bright green foliage is a branch hanging over the pool. On the surface of the water are fallen leaves and grey green algae. The reflection is only the trees that have lost many leaves and the clouds in the sky.
