The public seawater swimming pool in Saint-Malo has got to be one of the best in the world.

Built in 1936, it has been serving swimmers for 89 years. It is a tidal seawater pool, meaning the tides cover it twice a day and the water inside is renewed. It was built to give vacationers a place to swim at low-tide, when the sea would be too far away for vacationers to enjoy. This unique concrete basin put Saint-Malo on the map as one of the best bathing resorts in Brittany.

Side note: I grew up jumping off trees and cliffs into lakes in New Hampshire. At least once a summer I scale Saint-Malo’s diving platform to see if I still got it.
