In Southern Rwanda, Deborah Umutoniwase wakes with the sun, and dreams beyond the pastel hills of her homeland. Less than a generation ago, her mother survived genocide to raise a family among the scars of the past. Today Deborah represents a new dawn. Daughter, student, and winger on her school’s girl’s soccer team, the world feels bigger at her feet.

“Deborah’s Path” was written by Karenzi Queen Rosine aka .karenzi and appears in Issue 06, the World Cup Issue, out now. It’s also the first winner of the x Women’s Creative Grant and the kind of strong representation of female storytellers we are so fortunate to work with in each of our print magazines.

Applications for the second Women’s Creative Grant are now open, and we can’t wait to see what our community produces next. To apply, check the link in bio. To read more of these stories become an Ori Collective member, support nonprofit storytelling, and get two timeless mags delivered to your mailbox every year.

The Going-to-the-Sun Road within Glacier National Park is an engineering marvel connecting the east and west ends of Montana’s crown jewel. The 50 mile stretch tops out at 6,646 feet and is the only U.S. road designated as a National Historic Landmark and Historic Civil Engineering Landmark.

It’s also one hell of a bike ride. For a short window each spring, the road opens to bikers and hikers before regular traffic (it’s closed in winter due to snow and avalanches). We had a chance to experience the route during this magical window, as well as four seasons of (very real) weather in just a few short hours. And yes, there was bear spray.

Summertime crowds are around the corner, but it was nice to see that shoulder season is just as special. Rivers, mountains, forests, glaciers, bighorn sheep—we got to see all of it, and our smiles have not shrunk since.

Bucket list moment, unlocked. A special thanks to for the opportunity. More coming soon.

When we hosted our first magazine party back in 2023, we were excited to celebrate our launch, but never thought it would be Ori’s “thing.”

To our surprise, the first comments we got after that initial shindig were “When’s the next one?” We’re 5 issues and about 6 parties in now, and beyond happy for the unexpected detour.

Why? Well, we’ve learned this little global magazine of ours is less about the act of travel and more about people and community. Publications constantly promote the analog, but what’s more analog than sharing and spreading the joy of storytelling and connection in person?

Don’t worry, we’re still making a magazine first and foremost. But recently, we to celebrated Issue 05 in Seattle (after a fall blowout in NYC), and left with new friends and good energy. Thanks for all who were able to make it, and hope to see everyone again soon. Thanks to for hosting, for partnering, for leading our custom poster workshop and for snapping some beautiful photos. Oh, and thank YOU for showing up, that’s an act that deserves its encore.
