Talking of wildlife, and animals we mention our cats a bit, we have 9 regular house visitors, they got vaccinated this year, which posed a bit of a challenge but one young chap had been quite poorly so we didn't want to risk it in future. Some of our cats like to spend the night in, others like to spend the day in, though it all depends on the weather, and we rarely have all 9 in! We didn't intend to have such a big cat family, but they have proved to be great companions, and we love to have them around. There are also a couple of feral cats who like to hang around hoping to get fed, and well, it seems they do! Some of our cats like to follow us about as we work around the place. Which mains that on occasion they may follow us into La Petite Maison, for their trouble they get sent right out again! We keep it a cat free zone. So if you leave the door open, and they do come in, do just make it clear you don't want them, and they will quickly go!

In our experience, it will be much easier to move them on than these sheep that came to visit yesterday!

We are trying to make the garden at La Petite Maison a better place for wildlife including birds and insects, so we are cutting less of the grass and seeding wildflowers where we can, it doesn't always go to plan, but it seems fitting in our secluded little space in rural Normandy. People are funny though, they book a stay at this rural idyll, then when they review us we get the occasional low mark for location, presumably because it is 3.5km from the pub and 7km from the supermarket. We also find that some will drive 4 hours to get here, and immediately ask where the nearest shop is and go back out! Couldn't they stop on the way? 🥹

As of today La Petite Maison is 106 Le Vallet, 61800 Tinchebray-Bocage. Of course we have no official sign, and we don't know when the services will catch up with our new numbering, but I have set this address on Google Maps. The only local sign for Le Vallet takes you to what is now 104 Le Vallet, don't go there, there is no access to 106, or 108 or 110. To help you I have made our own signs for Le Vallet 106, 108 and 110 and for La Petite Maison.

After the sad loss of Ruben last week, we currently have 8 cats who sleep in our house and one who prefers to sleep under the stars, plus 2 'barn cats', so we cannot accept guest pets (sorry, no dogs).

La Petite Maison is a stone built and rendered self contained cottage available to rent by the week or night, on a self catering basis. Once an agricultural building it is set next to our Normandy farmhouse in about an acre of wooded garden, with a classic Normandy Bocage boundary to a quiet lane. The garden attracts a wide range of song birds.
In a secluded spot inside a stone wall next to the cottage is a whirlpool bath which is available for guest use. Inside the cottage features wooden structural beams and provides accommodation consists of an open plan kitchen, lounge area with a window out onto the garden and two sets of doors which open out onto a paved patio for al fresco dining.

The kitchen is fully equipped with gas stove, microwave and fridge. The lounge has a double fold out bed settee, a wood burning stove and TV with English freesat, there is also a DVD player and DVD's for your use. We plan add French freesat TV when our installer can get to us!

Stairs lead up to the bedroom which has a double bed, and two single beds. The bathroom consists of multi function massage shower cabinet, hand wash basin and toilet. Bed Linen and towels are included.

The setting is rural Normandy at its best, with access to many miles of quiet roads and local walking paths.
Parking for visitors cars and vans under 7 metres and most trailers is available. The gateway turn in means take care with vans over 6 metres and no access to very large trailers or caravans, i.e. over 4 metres.

We are very pleased to see through Facebook that more and more of you are 'Liking' our page. We aren't very dynamic with posts, but with more of you out there, we do need to make more effort.

We are getting back to pre-Covid booking rates, in fact the summer itself has been our busiest period so far. Coming after forced total closure for 2 months, this was particularly pleasing.

Most of our custom is 'local' with several small families meeting with relatives, and some competitors participating in sports like BMX and Moto Enduro locally.

We also have a fair selection of couples enjoying a relaxing time in the tranquil Normandie countryside.

It would be good if some of you could tell us what you would plan to do if you visit.

Summer thunderstorms tonight, which let some water into the main house, probably because the ground was parched....but just as the rain was at it's worst the phone rang....our guests were lost...in the end just 7km away, but travelling by bicycle with 2 small children they needed help!

Of course first we needed to know where they were. With the help of them sending a map link we discovered that there is indeed a road called Le Valet two villages away, not too far from us, so remember La Petite Maison is at the hamlet Le Vallet with two Ls....so when we worked out where to go....out in the car with a bike rack on the back and we recovered them home, in two trips.

A lovely young family, and thankfully there are some toys to help the parents keep the little ones amused.

Let's hope we all get to dry out a bit tomorrow!

Quiet afternoon watching the ladies and gents out at the Tracto-Rando, running their tractors and making hay on a pleasant summer day.....A mix or restored, as found and in use tractors.....all at one time a vital part of the local economy....

Time does fly! It is now June and goingto be warm today, predicted 28 degrees and sunny. Not a day for working in the garden, so back to the workshop and engine building!
