The Saint-Sernin basilica is the most important Catholic religious building in Toulouse. It is located in the heart of the square of the same name. It is one of the largest Romanesque churches preserved in Europe, along with the Cathedral of Speyer, in Germany, and the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela, in Spain.
The basilica was built at the end of the 11th century to house the relics of the first bishop of Toulouse, Saint Saturnin (becoming Sarnin or Sernin in Occitan).
In the middle of the 3rd century, Saturninus would have been at the head of the first Christian community in ancient Tolosa. On November 29, 250, he would have been attacked by pagans at the foot of the Capitolium (Place Étienne-Esquirol): having refused to sacrifice to Jupiter, he would have been tied to a bull and dragged along to the current location of the Notre-Dame du Taur church.

During the Middle Ages, with the development of the cult of saints, the sanctuary became one of the most important centers of pilgrimage in the medieval West, even as the city became an important stopover for pilgrims on the way to Saint- Jacques de Compostela.
The importance of Saint-Sernin can be felt, since the Middle Ages, in the place it occupies in the power struggles which cross the city, but also in its considerable influence on the growth and town planning of Toulouse, and even on the flowering of the arts.

Its architectural plan makes it the archetype of large pilgrimage churches, where pilgrims can circulate to venerate the relics without disturbing the mass taking place in the nave.

After the French Revolution, and despite the destruction of the cloister and most of the abbey buildings between 1804 and 1808, the exceptional character of the Saint-Sernin basilica was quickly recognized. The church itself is at the heart of the new square that the architect Urbain Vitry designed as a setting. It is classified as a historic monument by the list of 18402. It is also listed as a UNESCO World Heritage site as part of the routes to Compostelle in France since 1983.

Notre-Dame-de-la-Dalbade owes its name to Sancta Maria de Albata (Saint Mary the White) because in the Middle Ages its walls Originally, its exterior walls were covered with lime, giving it an immaculate whiteness, a tribute to the Virgin. Today, if white has given way to brick red on the outside, it is nevertheless found inside. Built around the 6th century. Destroyed by the fire of 1442, it was rebuilt in the 15th and 16th centuries.
Its bell tower was for a long time the tallest in the city at 81 meters but suddenly collapsed in 1926.

Notre-Dame-de-la-Dalbade is characteristic of southern Gothic with its single nave, without transept, its imposing walls, and its flamboyant Gothic style vault.

Despite these mishaps, it still stands, proudly welcoming its visitors with its Renaissance portal and its superb colored ceramic tympanum, made in 1878 by Gaston Virebent, a famous ceramist, who was inspired by the Coronation of the Virgin by Fra Angelico.

Joseph Galinier, born May 6, 1848 in Toulouse. Student of Henry Bach at the School of Arts in Toulouse, then of Jean Charles Laisné in Paris.

He became an architect for the city of Toulouse in the extraordinary service of the major works office from 1882, then chief architect of the city from 1906 to 1912. He was deputy director of the Toulouse school of arts from 1893 to 19061.
He has several iconic buildings in Toulouse. One of his masterpieces is Hôtel Mazelié, 4 Rue Jean Suau, Toulouse.

The building is made up of two buildings, the first built in 1892 and the second in 1901. It then belonged to Émile Mazelié, a leather merchant.

The first body of the building, on the left, has a long facade in a neo-classical style, of Haussmannian inspiration.
The second building, on the right, is representative of the Art Nouveau style. The ground floor has a large semi-circular door, framed by two windows, also semi-circular. A large stone mascaron, pierced by an oculus with scalloped and irregular contours and decorated with sunflowers.

This unique building now contains (Le Croquenotes). Croquenotes is a place like no other which brings together a specialized bookstore and workshops for luthiers, wind instrumentalists and bow makers. Le Croquenotes is THE music store where you can find thousands of scores! At the heart of this collaborative workshop entirely dedicated to music, which unfolds like a tree to the top, therapists take care of the postures of the instrumentalists and heal through music. Ô'notes allows everyone to exercise their talent, professionals from the Capitole, students from the Conservatory or amateurs who wish to acquire technical methods, collections of pieces or complete scores. Ordering and purchasing are possible online. The establishment also offers numerous free concerts… to the wise.

We owe this magnificent mansion to a rich merchant, Pierre d'Assézat, who made his fortune thanks to the pastel trade in the 16th century and capitulated in 1552 and 1562. To reinforce his power, he entrusted the construction to one of the most famous Toulouse architects, Nicolas Bachelier, and this began in 1555. It is, with the Caumont castle also built by Nicolas Bachelier in 1535, and the Cour Carrée of the Louvre built by Pierre Lescot in 1546, one of the first manifestations of French classicism. Most of the hotel seems to have been finished in 1562 because all the constituent elements visible today were already there at that date.

Théodore Ozenne, who bought this building in 1894, bequeathed it to the city upon his death so that it could accommodate learned societies, including the oldest literary society in Europe. It is still one of his vocations today. In 1980, the city began the restoration of old buildings as well as the construction of a modern extension.

The Bemberg Foundation is an art foundation located in Toulouse in the Hôtel d'Assézat, and presents the private art collection of collector Georges Bemberg, a wealthy Argentinian art lover, bringing together paintings, sculptures, and art objects. ancient and modern that it lent to the municipality of Toulouse to make them accessible to as many people as possible in 1994. The foundation, in addition to being a museum, also offers cultural activities linked to the history and knowledge of art.

Among the objects exhibited, painting and drawing occupy a privileged place, with for example a unique set of more than thirty paintings by Pierre Bonnard and works by great painters from different European schools of painting, from the 15th century to the 20th century.

The museum, located at 7 Place d'Assézat in Toulouse, closed for work, reopening on February 2, 2024.
