When my job shifted to fully remote work, I saw my opening. I packed light, said goodbye to the familiar, and stepped into the unknown.

In July 2020, after a near-fatal accident left me in a wheelchair for months, I had an epiphany: life is short, and it was time to start living mine to the fullest. Since then, I’ve been slow-traveling the world — not as a tourist, but as a minimalist and a nomad. What started as a personal reset became a lifestyle. Now retired (mostly), I created Old Man Nomad to share the ups, downs, and odd det

ours of life abroad. I hope my story entertains, inspires, and maybe even nudges someone else to take the leap.

A day of wandering through Fes' Medina. Google Maps is somewhat ineffective in here.

A new country added to the list, and even a new continent. Im staying right in the crazy Medina area for a couple days, then looking for a more typical residential neighborhood.

8:30 pm on a Thursday in Leon, it's not even busy yet. I love how Spainish cities and towns come alive at 9:00 pm.

Leaving early today even though it's not a long distance day . I hope to get a spot at Ermita de San Nicolás de Puente Fitero, it's one of the most storied stops on the whole Camino. A restored 12th church with no electricity. Dinner served by candlelight. Foot washing ritual, etc.

Departed Burgos early this morning. It's only 10:30 and I'm already at my next stopover town. Beating the heat makes a big difference. As I continue westward it'll get more important. Ahead of me, it's called the "Meseta," a long, hot, flat, and shadeless stretch .

I made it to Burgos today. I took a bus the last few kilometers, I was drained, no shame. In the evening here, there is a period called the "blue hour" between 9:30 and 10:30 pm. Here's a few pics. I plan to rest here a few days.

One of most interesting things about walking the Camino is staying in the alburgues. Two nights ago, I stayed in Tosantos. It's called a donativo, which means there's no pressure to pay any certain amount. There's just a donation box discreetly placed in the reception area. Last night I stayed in Villafranca Montes de Oca.
