Thinking of next year's summer holiday? This is a review from guests who have just been on holiday to Fleur de Lys:

"We have just spent two superb weeks in Fleur de Lys. We found the property to be so much more spacious than we had anticipated. Our four children, three of whom are teenagers, had the top floor to themselves which we all really appreciated! The rooms are all tastefully furnished, retaining the french charm we were hoping for. We spent many happy hours, glass in hand, on the sunny courtyard/patio and enjoyed the sun terrace not only for the sun but also late night star gazing! We had a packed holiday, visiting all the local attractions - Vezeley, Avalon, swimming in Auxerre, the caves, markets, restaurants and local towns' celebrations and fireworks and so much more. Our favourite spot to visit daily is always the Parc des Iles (5 min walk,) which has to be the most relaxing place anywhere. Paris was easily accessible for a day trip where we packed a huge amount in. Fleur de Lys is certainly the perfect holiday home to either use as a base to access the many charms of Burgundy or simply to spend time relaxing in the lovely property. We would love to return."

The season is now well underway. Here's a review from guests who left on Saturday...

"Just wanted to drop you a line to tell you what a wonderful week we had in Vermenton and how much we enjoyed staying in your house.

On our arrival, and after a long drive, we settled our stuff in and had a good mooch about - I love a quirky dwelling, so felt very at home in no time at all. We wandered down to Atac (supermarket) and along with the info John had imparted, the info from yourself, info I had gleaned before arrival and the info in the drawer - I set to working out the week's activities, and it went something like this :

Saturday Eve : A good wander around the village and into the park and across the rickety bridges to see the many lovely vistas of the river.

Sunday : Chablis Market, Vermenton 'Vide Grenier' (French equivalent of a boot sale), Back to Chablis for a wander around the town.

Monday : Tonnerre, Tanlay Castle, Noyers sur Serein

Tuesday : Arcy sur Cur caves, Vezelay, Avallon

Wednesday : Abbaye de Fontenay, Bussy Rabutin

Thursday : Bailly Caves, Auxerre, Joigny

Friday : Chateau de Bazoches, Morvan Forest, Chateau Chinon town & Vezelay for dinner (La Dent Creuse) - our only evening dinner out!

Saturday : Home via Monet's garden & house at Giverny

So, you can see that we had a very full schedule.

I could ramble on for hours about the lovely countryside, the gorgeous old historical buildings, the charming villages & your super home - but you'll die of boredom before the end of the email!

All that remains is for me to say thank you once more and hope that one day soon, we will be in a position to return ..... Graham is a painter/decorater by trade so if ever you wanted to offer a working holiday, just say the word, ha ha xx

Another five-star review on TripAdvisor:

We had a lovely holiday in Vermenton - especially visiting Vezelay and Chablis - very memorable. We loved the boutique shops in Vezelay and the basilica was amazing - all the history and the stories behind the friezes on the pillars. The countryside is lovely with the grapevines on the hills - and then on to Chablis for winetasting!

This is my second review: "We loved everything about your house, and could not fault it in any way. We have a long experience of renting holiday homes both in France and the UK, and we both agree that yours is the best, and the best value, that we've ever had, and we do not give praise lightly.

I'll be very happy to post a review on Holiday Lettings. In addition I've already started recommending the house to friends. We may also break the habit of a lifetime and return to the same place again one day."

My fiance and I stayed at 2 Rue de Vau with our parents for one week to plan our wedding at the nearby Abbaye de Reigny, which is just a few minutes down the road. It was the absolute perfect location and accomodation for what we needed for the week! The kitchen was well equipped and we enjoyed lunches and dinners in the very pleasant back garden! We used the telescope to star gaze from the top porch! The living room was comfortable and had plenty of seating for all of us to be together and the bedrooms were private. The internet worked well, as well as English TV and telephone! We loved it and felt very "at home!" Carol (the owner) is very warm and welcoming, greeting us on our arrival and sitting down for a chat to make sure we knew everything about the place and areas to visit. She went out of her way to make sure we could find a good restaurant, as we arrived on a Sunday, and came back to tell us how to find it! We felt lucky to have found such a great place for a great price, with such nice people managing. We are booking again next summer for guests to our wedding!
