Mid Wales has some of the most polluted rivers in Wales. This is due to the amount of heavy metals running out of the disused mines and spoil heaps.
Millions of pounds are being spent to combat the pollution.
This is happening now at Dylife where waste heaps are being capped, to stop rainwater seeping through and carrying the metals into the rivers.
Streams are being diverted or placed in pipes so they don’t run over the waste heaps.
Work is being carried out to stop the metals flowing out of the old mine shafts.
How much pollution is getting into the rivers, well Cwmystwyth metal mines leach on a good year about thirty tons of lead, zinc and cadmium, during a wet year that can more than double.
This is an ongoing project and will eventually cover all the mines causing problems.

Another overnight stay in this town, perhaps it would be cheaper and more cost effective to by an apartment rather than keep paying for hotels 😀

Last autumn I picked up some acorns and decided to plant them and see what happened.
Now I have the beginnings of an oak forest, trouble is I won’t live to see the finished product never mind I know what they will look like in about a 150 years😀

Today we start at Voco St David and the into the Black Mountains and Llanthony Priory before lunch in Hay on Wye, then we will head north.

To however thought it was a good idea to put barriers around a seagulls nest to protect it in the council office car park in Aberystwyth well done!
