This week marks the launch of Carna Coast and Communities, a new community-led initiative bringing people together to learn more about the incredible environment of Loch Sunart, its coastline and surrounding waters.

There are still spaces available on two fantastic events:

🔍 Shoreline Survey: Thursday 11th June, 11am
🏖️ Family Beach Clean: Friday 12th June, 1.30pm

Both are free to attend and offer a great opportunity to get involved in local conservation efforts while spending time outdoors in one of Scotland's most special coastal environments.

Hidden away around the West Highland Peninsulas are secret coves, secluded bays and pristine beaches. They’re perfect for relaxing, playing with your children, walking the dog, swimming in calm waters or simply wandering along searching for unusual pebbles and seashells. The only sounds you’ll hear will be the cry of gulls and the waves gently lapping the shore, while sunlight dappling the water casts shades of vibrant turquoise and emerald green.

Arguably, the gateway to the west coast peninsulas, Ardgour is just a 5 minute ferry trip across the Corran Narrows. Drive up the slipway and you enter a world where the pace of life slows, where you can be at one with nature along forest walks, indulge in activities such as fishing, cycling or kayaking, or simply enjoy the rugged shoreline and hidden coves along the banks of Loch Linnhe.

Ardnamurchan is perhaps best known for being the most westerly point on the British mainland. But the area holds so much more than the lighthouse at the tip of the peninsula, spectacular that it is. There are stunning beaches with pure white sand and crystal clear waters, historic sites dating back to pre-history, intriguing geology in a unique volcanic landscape, abundant wildlife on land and offshore, and gorgeous hidden places to eat, drink and sleep.

Sunart is perhaps best known as being part of the last areas of temperate rainforest in Scotland, with its extensive hillsides of native trees, many hundreds of years old, bedecked by a multitude of mosses, ferns and lichens.

The area was also home to extensive lead mines, now just ruins dotting the hillsides above the village of Strontian. For visitors looking for something different there’s plenty to do in the rea, from walking and sightseeing to cycling, kayaking, wild water swimming, plus a mouth-watering choice of cafes and restaurants.

Moidart is designated a National Scenic Area, known for its unique landscape and awe-inspiring scenery. Although remote, the area is well-served by a network of roads, making its mountains, glens and woodlands easily accessible to visitors. In common with all the west coast peninsulas, you’ll find an inspiring mix of nature, history, culture and modern amenities, including shops, pubs, cafes and restaurants.
