The week of the New Moon in April is dedicated to International Dark Skies week. This is a global event, here in Northumberland we are very lucky to have spectacular dark skies. So why not go have a look and you might be lucky enough to see The Milky Way or even The Aurora Borealis.
Locally we have venues that host star gazing events Kielder Observatory Twice Brewed Stargazing Battlesteads Observatory.

🐣🐣If you’re staying with us this Easter with children,this looks a lovely activity at Hexham Abbey. The Abbey is quite magnificent and worth a look around for the grown ups too.

Alnick Gardens has the largest collection of ‘Taihaku’ Cherry Blossom Trees in the world.

This breathtaking sight takes place for about 2 weeks around the end of April, beginning of May.

If you’re staying at this time it’s well worth a visit to Alnick Gardens. Or we still have some availability, so there’s still time to book your stay🙂

🌿🌿🌿MAY IN NORTHUMBERLAND🌿🌿🌿

May is a lovely time to visit Northumberland, it showcases its natural beauty. With Cherry Blossoms and lots of wildlife returning, like the Puffins at the Farne Islands and Ospreys at Kielder. Also the thousands of Rhodendrons that are in bloom at Cragside (National Trust) are a must see!

We had a lovely group of friends staying at the cottage this weekend. They were lucky with the weather & of course it was Hexham’s first ever Restaurant week for them to take advantage of. Also they were very kind and left me a lovely gift ❤️❤️

If you're looking for somewhere local to eat then the tiny hamlet of Anick is where you’ll find The Rat Inn which is an award winning country gastropub only a couple of minutes drive away from Atte Combe Cottage or a lovely 30 minute walk through some fabulous countryside. It offers local produce, & in summertime lots of their vegetables are grown in their own garden. A cosy bar which retains a real village pub feel, and lovely gardens where you can enjoy amazing views of the countryside, with the river Tyne in the distance curving around the ancient Roman village of Corbridge.

When staying at Atte Combe cottage why not visit The Temple of Mithras at Brocolitia it’s a short, rough walk from the Roman military road (B6318). There are fantastic views, even from the car park.
We loved that people still leave offerings at the Mithras! Brocolitia is just a short drive from the cottage
