Time For Your Escape

I have been busy with bookings the past couple of weeks , which is great , I love the fact people trust me to arrange their trips - however loyalty isn’t always there - My own son booked with someone else whilst I was in Bucharest 🤬 ….. and now the day has came where Riley and his 3 friends head out on their first boys holiday - people will need to approach me with caution the next 10 days cause I’m heart is roasted and nerves are shattered 😭😭😭

Have you missed me ?

What a busy week I had last week with family stuff - it totally threw me off my game but thank goodness for being able to work around my family life. I am in the process of studies g for my CLIA ( it’s for people who like to sell cruises ) - I have been booked on a course and a ship visit early Aug so really want to have as much knowledge as I can under my belt.

I also got recognised for being a top agent when it comes to booking hotels ( thanks to the slingshot crew for that one )

Anyway Atlas and Skye are just chilling out in airdrie ( weathers good this week so why not ) countdown is on until our next adventure ( here’s a clue ) …… au revoir lol

🐾 Atlas & Skye Take on Sunderland 🐾

Atlas and Skye joined me on my latest trip to Sunderland to watch the Slingshot greyhounds 🐕💨

We stayed at the beautiful beachfront Grand Hotel Sunderland, who were amazing as always. They helped me arrange welcome letters in the rooms and even a wee suitcase filled with sweets as a thank you for booking with Toye Voyage 🍬🧳 — such a lovely touch!

The Slingshots had two dogs running:
🐾 Slingshot Leeona
🐾 Slingshot Poppy

(Both named after my daughter and granddaughter — so this one was extra special ❤️)

Atlas and Skye were treated like absolute VIPs again, with a private area and food laid on for the Slingshots… honestly, they’re getting used to this lifestyle now 👀✨

I’d made up little activity packs for the kids… and the big kids (Conar 21, Johnny 21 and Craig 45 — say no more 😂). Safe to say it turned VERY competitive, very quickly.

Now… Slingshot Leeona hadn’t raced at this track before, so expectations were… cautious.
But clearly Atlas and Skye had a quiet word because she FLEW out those traps and just kept going… faster and faster…

Straight onto the podium for celebrations — what a moment!

Next up was Poppy. This girl always carries a bit of pressure, but she absolutely delivered — a strong, comfortable win 💪🐾

Back onto the podium for more celebrations, photos and proud moments all round.

After her race, Poppy came over to see Atlas and Skye (definitely discussing their next adventure 🐻💕), posed for some photos, and then it was time to head back after an unforgettable night.

Back at the hotel bar, Nicola had very kindly ordered a proper spread — Domino’s pizza, wings, garlic bread (other pizza places are available 😂) 🍕🍗

We sat, laughed, chatted and relived every moment until the clock struck midnight…

And just like that — bedtime.
Because if it’s good enough for Cinders… it’s good enough for me 👠✨

The next morning, breakfast was served until 10am, with all the usuals:

Exactly what was needed after a busy (and very successful!) night.

🐾 Toye Voyage Travels… Newcastle Edition (minus Atlas & Skye 🙈)

Well… bad supervisor moment — I went to Newcastle for the greyhound racing and forgot to bring Atlas & Skye 🤦‍♀️

To be fair… they’ve already smashed Tenerife, Bucharest AND Amsterdam this year — it’s only April 😅✈️

So instead, I had Riley, Jay & grandson Rory keeping me company 💙

🚐 The Journey Down

We kicked things off with a pit stop in Gretna Green where we met the minibus from EDI Chauffeurs

They were escorting the Slingshot posse — loyal supporters of the greyhound team from Brian Fairbairn kennels 🐕

This lot don’t mess about… they travel everywhere supporting their dogs 🙌

Next stop:
• Newcastle Greyhound Stadium – Thursday night racing
• Then onto Dunstall Park Greyhound Stadium – Friday night

🏨 The Hotel

We checked into the gorgeous
Hotel du Vin & Bistro Newcastle

We’ve stayed before so knew it was a good one — and it didn’t disappoint 👌

👉 TAKE A PHOTO OF YOUR ROOM NAME 😂
(No numbers… actual names… and not even normal ones 😭)

🍽️ Night Out & Racing

The hotel is literally 5 mins from the stadium — ideal 👏

Newcastle delivered as always:
• Food ✔️
• Service ✔️
• Atmosphere ✔️

The staff are brilliant and always seem happy to see the Slingshots (or at least they pretend well 😅)

And… we had a few winners 🤑🐕

Back to the hotel for drinks 🍷

Then Nicola saved the day with a full-on Just Eat feast:
• Pizza
• Chips
• Kebabs
• “Chicken things” (technical term obviously 😂)

At check-in, the hotel handed out the welcome letters I’d sent in advance 🥹

Honestly — THIS is why I love what I do.

Not a smoker… BUT…

The outdoor smoking area had a log burner and cosy setup and I won’t lie… it looked like a whole vibe 🔥

I ordered:
👉 Boiled egg & soldiers

They came pre-cut into strips… which felt slightly illegal but also convenient 😂

Breakfast room, food, service — all spot on 👌

Amsterdam weekend with atlas and Skye

Off we went again on our travels this time we booked the mini cruise to Amsterdam with dfds ferry’s £120 for 2 people in an inside cabin for 2 nights - what a price !!! But also if you haven’t done it before set your accommodation Barr very low - a tiny room with bunk beds - no window and a small bathroom - but it’s literally just for sleeping in and climbing up and down on the top bunk makes for great convos .
Our holiday starts as soon as I leave the house - however we got the extended version of the drive to Newcastle between Riley needing a primark and mark not being able to listen to the sat nav ( who knew mark not listening 🙉) eventually we arrived and check in was super quick - atlas n Skye did get a few weird looks but they enjoyed their photo shoot and didn’t notice much lol
Boarding was quick and efficient although the walk up 2.5 flights of stairs may have been underestimated bags dumped and straight to the Columbus club lounge we managed to find an area that comfortabley sat all 21 of us the band began and they were brilliant good tunes and had people dancing and singing along - we went for buffet dinner and there was a good choice of food ( although not for Riley the egg allergy sufferer he had chips and chips n carrots - yes I said carrots - Riley thought it was “grated orange cheese “ 🤣🤣)
Food was warm not hot but tasted fine. After dinner back to the lounge where our crowd had found the karaoke and “ casino” just as mark couldn’t take anymore just like Cinderella the clock striked midnight and it was bed time ( remember I was talking about getting off the top bunk stories - well I witnessed mark taking 20 mins trying to navigate his way drunk off the top bunk )
Unfortunately getting off the ferry on sat morning was sooooo long and time consuming our bus into the town centre didn’t actually leave until 11.30 - this was our 5th time in Amsterdam so after atlas has another photo shoot doing the usual the Amsterdam has to offer - canals , bikes , clogs , tulips , joints , space cakes and off course the red light we found the shops and spent a few hours there - take plenty of money if you visit captain candy - a pic n mix shop with really cool xl marshmallows. We filled a bag ( not literally maybe half filled ) and got to the counter and we were €48 WTF !!!! For pic n mix obvs had to pay it to save the red neck but that was a sore one .
Journey back to the ferry and boarding was great and straightforward enough - the ferry was someone different atmosphere on the sat night everyone in the Columbus club was mellow and more relaxed - well done Amsterdam - lol
Dinner was the exact same as the night before with a different soup choice and yet again warm as best - the buffet or the restaurant sit down 3 course - is the only place to get hot food - a small cafe that sold chips / hot dog / pizza would have been better especially for Riley who only ate chips so the £26 price tag felt a bit ott
Disembarking was ridiculous the ques were crazy and surprise surprise only 4 out the 8 passport control desks were opened -
Paid the £36 car parking fee and headed to get our grandkids to come and spend the week with us -
Over all I love this weekend - spending time with the family doing something a bit different and it can be as cheap ( take food on the ferry and don’t visit captain candy ) or as expensive ( book the restaurant , and do organised excursions ) as you like - I loved it and will prob do it again Amsterdam is a beautiful quaint city
