BIG update on the Jacobite steam train (Hogwarts Express) for the 2026 season!

As of June 1st, the Jacobite has resumed operating for the 2026 season - but ONLY for tour operators that offer tickets for large groups

I heard that they are also allowing the general public to purchase tickets onsite the day of, but none of this has been confirmed on the West Coast Railways website

This is a positive move towards operating for the 2026 season though, and hopefully this means tickets for the general public will be available soon 🤞🏻🤞🏻

This is what a Travel Advisor’s trip to Scotland actually looks like…

If you’re new here, this is the 4th and final part of my series where I show you what it’s like visiting a place as a Travel Advisor

I showed you my time in Edinburgh for festival season and my stay in the Scottish highlands in parts 1-3. Now it’s time to wrap up my trip

After my time in the Scottish highlands, it was time to head back to Edinburgh before I flew home

To end this bucket list trip on a high note, I booked a room at the incredible Balmoral Hotel. If you don’t know, the Balmoral is the BEST of the best hotels in Edinburgh. (I said what I said. 😏)

I also arranged a site visit of the hotel, and enjoyed a tour of the property - including the different suites, the pool and spa, and the amazing gym.

I also used my $100 food and beverage credit (which is one of the perks I can get YOU if you want to stay here too 🤗) at one of the hotel’s onsite restaurants. It was the best way to end my time in my favorite country in the world

If you take anything away from this video series (besides all the things you can do in Scotland), it’s that Travel Advisors build our own trips around gathering knowledge to help plan YOUR trips better. We invest our time, and often our own money, all for the sake of getting first hand experience that we can pass along to you.

And I personally wouldn’t trade it for anything 💜

Update on the 2026 season for the Jacobite steam train 🚂

Each year the Jacobite steam train operates from April-October (with the specific dates varying each year).

West Coast Railways (the company that operates the Jacobite usually issues the tickets for the upcoming season in late December or January.

It’s currently May and the Jacobite hasn’t started operating for the 2026 season yet…so what the heck is going on?!

Essentially, the Jacobite is a 100-year old train and the lock system on some of the carriages doesn’t meet current safety requirements.

The governing board that oversees these things told West Coast Railways they can’t use those carriages anymore, so now they are trying to update them so they can operate this year.

What does this mean for the 2026 season?? Inquiring minds want to know 🤔

At this point, West Coast Railways still plans to operate for the 2026 season…but has not given a specific start date for the season or released any tickets. They plan to update the old lock system on the carriages so they can operate safely (which it’s important!).

All we can do is continue to wait and hope that the train will be in operation soon. You can also sign up for updates on the West Coast Railways website (https://westcoastrailways.co.uk/jacobite/steam-train-trip) for the latest updates.

Happy traveling! 🚂

🚢 Don’t judge something you haven’t tried before (yeah, I said it 😏) 🚢

If you’re new here, FOLLOW .a.little.more for travel content and honest advice!

If you follow my page, you’ll see that a cruise is NOT my typical type of vacation. I’ve never gone on one before, and honestly have never felt drawn to doing one before. (ZERO offense to people who love cruising, it’s just never been my jam.)

And now that I’ve experienced one, I gotta say…I enjoyed it more than I thought I would 😱

I didn’t partake in a lot of the activities or parties onboard, and instead relaxed more than anything else. Which is honestly not something I do very often. 😖 So that was very much needed and SO good for me!

All that to say…if you’re like me and are the type of person who’s said they’d never do a cruise: never say never. I’d encourage you to try it one time with an open mind, and you might be surprised and enjoy it more than you think!

Not to toot my own horn…but also…toot toot 🎺

After years of planning trips to Scotland, I’ve realized something: by the end of a Discovery Call (what I call the initial consultation), I can usually already see what a client’s trip is going to look like.

Once I hear about your travel style, interests, and what you’re excited about, it starts to click. The routes, which castles you’ll love, the landscapes will make your jaw drop, and how to structure the trip so it actually flows well.

I’m not naturally someone who loves to brag (I usually feel like there’s always more to learn), but this is one area where I can confidently say…I’ve got a lot of experience. And I love helping people plan trips that feel like they were made just for them.

✨ If you’re dreaming about Scotland, you can schedule a complimentary Discovery Call through the link in my bio and we’ll start mapping out your trip.
