of ghosts, poltergeists, manifestations, floating orbs, paranormal investigations, satanic rituals, murders, hangings, theft, knights, house keepers, nuns, gangsters, soldiers, grave desecration and more! Acclaimed story teller, fan of the paranormal, macabre and the strange, Bryan your Ghost Walk guide has lived in the local area his whole life, his family living in the same Central Beds village since Parish records began in the early 1700’s and before! Spaces are limited on each walk and booking is essential. These walks are a NEW attraction for 2024!

AmptHELL, Ampthills first Fright Fim Festival - RESERVATIONS NOW OPEN. Parkside Hall, Sat 26 Sept!

Love movies? Love scary movies? Then you’ll love AmptHELL. An afternoon and evening of two awesome blockbuster movies and live on stage interviews with local people from the movie industry and a public premier of a locally made horror short.

You can reserve places for the Maninee (American Werewolf in London) 3pm to 6pm OR the Evening (The Cabin in the Woods and The Tunnel) 6.30pm to 10pm OR BOTH!

It’s £8 per person for each session or £12 for both, link to book in the first Comment.

Films are classified 15 making this ideal for couples, friends, groups or families with young adults with an interest in media and the film industry.

The Beadlow Manor Hotel near Clophill stands empty after closing some years ago. Each time I drive past I wonder what will become of the old farmhouse and its adjacent converted farm buildings. I’m worried we’ll lose another historic local building. The old Beadlow Manor Farm is a special place built directly upon the site of the C.12th Benedictine Beadlow Priory.

The land passed from monastic ownership to the Crown during the Reformation, then through a couple of families before becoming part of the Wrest Park Estate where it remained until at least 1826. By 1896 the farm was owned by George Bennett. In July 1918 the whole farm was sold at auction by Bennett's executors. In October 1940 two high explosive bombs were dropped by the Luftwaffe, one exploding only 20 feet from the back door of the farmhouse causing some damage but no casualties!

In the 1970’s the adjacent golf course and hotel were created. The golf course is open and busy, renamed Cainhoe Woods Golf Club a few years ago.

Pic 4 shows the 1883 map shows the farmhouse and its extensive quadrangle of outbuildings in their heyday.

The interior images were taken by an urban explorer. Sadly the property looks in decline with a uncertain future. It's private property - not accessible - so please keep out.

Two aerial pictures of Ampthill House taken in 1929. In the first you can clearly see what is now The Wingfield Club and The Old Court House in Church Street in the bottom left of the picture. In the second taken from the other direction, you can see Avenue House on the left had side in Church Street and St Andrews Church near the top behind Ampthill House. Ampthill House was built in 1829 and demolished in 1953, the area being built upon. Its last resident, Sir Anthony Wingfield, had a private zoo and collection of exotic animals.

A new piece of Hidden Ampthill! The cells of the Old Police House in Park Hill as they are today. Now the dining room of the house the four thick heavy cell doors remain intact with their original locks and keys, viewing doors and riveted metal plating. The walls are seriously thick solid brick and the ceilings vaulted brickwork. The small high level windows have robust flat bars still in place. The cells are quite impenetrable. Ampthill Police back in the day, did not want you absconding! One of the cells is slightly different its door is thinner, it has a fireplace and no high level window and used to have a door to the rear unlike the others. Today it's not clear why. Perhaps it was used differently maybe as an office?

The original 1855 plans showed ten rooms, four prison cells (despite one now being different), an exercise yard and two dog kennels. The Park Hill Police Station stayed operational for around 100 years before being decommissioned and sold for £1,600 in 1961 to be converted into a private house. The purchaser turned the old inspector's office into his lounge and cells into storage/features. Check out the old News film piece I’ve linked in the Comments. A new police station opened on Woburn Street in 1963, now also gone.
