Secret Tuesday: Club Med’s winter sale runs 1 to 15 September, for travel from late September 2026 through May 2026

Everyone will lead with the money off. Up to £600 per person. Wow! 🤩

But if you’re travelling with children, the discount isn’t the reason to book in the first week. Christmas week, New Year week and the under 4s childcare spaces are what run out.

What’s actually in the price, and this is the part that changes the maths on a family holiday:

✓ All meals, buffet and speciality restaurants
✓ Open bar and snacking through the day
✓ Kids’ clubs from 4 years, included, with real programmes rather than a room with toys
✓ Alpine: lift pass and group ski or snowboard lessons
✓ Sun: watersports, sailing, tennis, fitness classes
✓ Evening entertainment and childcare during it
✓ Kids under 6 stay free at sun resorts

What isn’t:

Flights, paid upfront at booking. Childcare for 4 to 24 months. Local tax at some resorts. A handful of activities that vary by property.

Secret Tuesday: The Disney partner hotel is one of the most misunderstood bookings in family travel.

People find the hotel on a comparison site, see a discount, and book it. What they don’t realise is that the perks that make a partner hotel worth choosing sit on the package, not the room. Park tickets, a park day for every night booked, free parking at the hotel and at the parks. Book the room on its own and none of that comes with it. You keep the shuttle and lose the reason you picked the hotel.

Then there’s the part nobody advertises. Partner hotels do not include Extra Magic Time. That hour before public opening is for official Disney hotel guests and certain annual passes, and with World of Frozen open it is worth more than it has been in years.

A few hotels near the parks also describe themselves as Disney partners when they are not on Disney’s official list.

Right for you if you want more space, a kitchen, a lower nightly rate, and this isn’t a first visit.

Skip it if it’s a first trip with young children, you’re going for two nights or fewer, or the headline rides are the whole point.

I check the official partner list, the shuttle timetables and which booking route protects your perks before anything is confirmed. That’s the work.

The headlines say Greece is on fire. Don’t cancel yet, and I’ll tell you why.

Greece’s Civil Protection publishes a fire risk forecast every single day, region by region. Five levels, from medium up to alert. Free, public, and almost nobody outside the industry knows it exists.

On the latest map most of the mainland and islands sit at high, Crete is at very high, northern Greece is at medium, and nothing in the country is at alert level. The area around Athens has come down a level this week.

It has been a hard fortnight. Firefighters have died and communities west of Athens have lost homes, and I’m not going to gloss over that to sell you a holiday.

But Greece is not one place. A fire near Athens tells you nothing about your villa in the Peloponnese or your week in Naxos. Look at your region, on your dates, and then decide. Sometimes the answer will be to change plans. Usually it won’t.

Italy has put all 27 cities on its national heat network on red alert. First time this year the whole map has gone red at once.

Ancona, Bari, Bologna, Bolzano, Brescia, Cagliari, Campobasso, Catania, Civitavecchia, Florence, Frosinone, Genoa, Latina, Messina, Milan, Naples, Palermo, Perugia, Pescara, Reggio Calabria, Rieti, Rome, Trieste, Turin, Venice, Verona, Viterbo.

You don’t need to cancel. You do need to plan differently.

☀️ Sightseeing before 11am. The Forum at 2pm is not the move, and the Italians already know this.
🏛️ Midday to 4pm is indoors. Galleries, churches, long lunches. Build the day around it rather than fighting it.
🌙 Check your hotel has actual air conditioning, not a fan. The nights aren’t dropping below 25°C, so there’s no overnight recovery.
💧 Water, shade, and be honest about what older parents or small kids can handle.

And if you’re still choosing dates: this is my whole argument for September and October. Same Italy, fewer people, weather you can walk in.

The last few weeks haven’t been easy.

Not everything went to plan. Some things I couldn’t control. A few I could, and still didn’t get right

But I keep noticing the small things. A message from a client mid trip saying the hotel was exactly what they hoped for. A photo I wasn’t expecting. A booking that finally lands after weeks of back and forth.

Little details. They add up.

Travel taught me this one first. The trip rarely goes exactly as planned, and the detour is usually where the story is.

So I’m taking the detour. Seeing the good where I can find it, and trusting the rest will follow.

You did everything right. Good photos, good reviews, decent price. Then you get there and the “4 stars” feels more like 3, the “central” location is a 20 minute walk from anything, and the “5 minutes to the beach” turns into stairs you didn’t see coming.

Here’s what actually changes the outcome: checking star ratings against the country’s own standard, reading reviews from the last 90 days (not the overall score), cross checking 2-3 platforms, and confirming real walk times before you book, not after.

The Pick: Sardinia, for families who want to actually relax

Kids’ clubs for every age, sports for the teens, a spa for you. Most resorts only nail one of those.

This one splits kids’ clubs by age — 3-4, 5-8, 9-13, 14-17 - so nobody’s bored and nobody’s babysitting. Tennis, football, archery and beach volleyball are free to use, all day, which keeps the teens occupied without extra spend. And there’s a spa and wellness centre on-site, plus evening childminding until 10:30pm, so parents actually get some downtime too.

Motivation is easier to find when you’re surrounded by people who have it too. 🌊
