Following yesterday’s disappointment in riding Spain’s impressive route AS-14 in the cloud, today the weather redeemed itself with clear blue skies for my spectacular traverse of the only legal dirt road in the Pico’s de Europa National Park. .

Wildly disappointed…
I really like the Michelin Anakee Wild. I ran them on my KTM 790 AdvR on last years BigSkyRiders Pico’s & Portugal pilot tour, and found them to be perfect for the conditions.
I wanted to run them again for my current scouting trip in Portugal 🇵🇹 & Galicia 🇪🇸but there were no 150 (tubeless) rears to be found anywhere in the UK.
I eventually found a 140 (tubed) so paired it with last years part-worn front and mounted them on my narrow wheel set.
After just 4300km, the rear is almost as bald as me 😱. Given that I’ve been riding with a ‘this tyre has to last the trip’ mindset rather than ‘ride it like I stole it’, this is especially disappointing. The 150 was harder wearing. Note that the front is still going strong and would likely do a third trip.
This soft compound goes some way to explain why they’re SO good on wet tarmac. But why the big difference in west rate between 140T and 150TL?
The shortage of ADV tyres extends into Europe, as I found when seeking a replacement. My choices were basically k***s or no k***s. Figuring I already had a tyre with no k***s I opted for k***s.
This Pirelli MT21 is overkill for my current trip but I shouldn’t run out of grip 😂

12 will be selected from the weekend, from which 3 will be selected to represent Great Britain at the 2022 BMW GS Trophy event in Albania 🇦🇱
