Annan Academy News

Annan Academy News Annan Academy is a 6 year comprehensive Secondary school based in the south west of Scotland. It has a role of approximately 950 pupils.

Annan has nine cluster primary schools which are; Carrutherstown, Cummertrees, Eastriggs, Elmvale, Gretna; Hecklegirth; Newington, Springfield and St Columbus. Visitors to the Academy will notice that while most of the school buildings are modern, there is a part which dates back further. The old building incorporating the bell-tower dates back over a century to 1895. This is a constant reminder o

f the school's history and its origins. Recent refurbishment has created an enhanced learning environment for staff and pupils. A leading example of this is the new Performing Arts building situated towards the rear of the school. At Annan Academy we have a hardworking, dedicated and passionate staff who deliver the curriculum in an innovative and engaging manner. In order for this to be achieved pupils at Annan Academy are expected to give their best in all facets of their education. The school has a uniform policy which all pupils must adhere to; shirt, tie, black trousers/skirt/dress, black footwear. As a school we offer a vibrant extra-curricular programme to all pupils providing them with the necessary skills to be successful in their chosen career path. Highlights of this include a number of educationally relevant excursions, the opportunity to be involved in a variety of sporting teams and the production of junior and senior shows. Annan Academy is also working towards the LGBT Schools Charter. We committed to this programme in Autumn 2018. The programme has been developed to support schools to undertake training and review policies, practice and resources to make sure that Annan Academy meeting legislative needs and is as inclusive as we can be. We look forward to involving community partners, parents and pupils, both past and present in the achievements and successes of our young people.

S1 Trip - Galloway Activity Centre

During the last week of S1, nearly 100 S1 pupils spent the day at the Galloway Activity Centre at Loch Ken. We enjoyed the Slip and Slide, Climb & Zip Wire, Lazer Tag and Paddleboarding. A fantastic time was had with staff commenting on how proud they were of pupils trying each activity and representing the school so well! ☺️

Thanks also to our school community, in particular Annan Academy Parent Council who helped to fundraise to cover the cost of the buses! 👏

There are lots more pictures which pupils can see via their Tutors, however attached is a selection of photos and videos so you can share in the fun! 😃

Our young people have been busy exploring countries from around the world, learning about national flags, discovering different cultures, and making their own World Cup predictions.

There have been some great discussions, plenty of friendly competition, and lots of excitement as everyone chooses who they think will lift the trophy! 🏆

It’s fantastic to see learning brought to life through a topic that inspires curiosity, teamwork and engagement.

Who do you think will be crowned World Cup champions? ⚽🌟

Our two junior teams took part in the D&G regional netball tournament last week.

After some tough games in the morning the junior A team got through to play in the the cup tournament in the afternoon. The pupils demonstrated some excellent netball skills and showed real determination throughout their games. The pupils were awarded bronze medals for their effort. Player of the day from junior A was Evie Stewart.

The junior B team played out their afternoon session in the plate tournament. Again, demonstrating some quality passing, intercepting and shooting. The players were also awarded bronze medals for their efforts. Player of the day: Aaliyah Marshall.

A massive thank you to our whole school community and in particular Miss Todd and Wendy Hamilton for continuing to support this initiative. Brilliant to be recognised on Border News for the community effort!

As mentioned on the news clip, the competition deadline has been extended until July.

YPI Winners 2026

Last week, S6 pupils took part in the Youth and Philanthropy Initiative. YPI is the biggest independent initiative being delivered in Scottish education. Each school is responsible for directing a grant of £3000 to a local charity championed by its students through a unique programme of teamwork, research and competition.

The winning presentation was created by Ava Vickers, Deryn Johnstone, Amelia Bell, Lily Irving and Gracie-Mae Fletcher for their chosen charity, Annandale and Eskdale Disability Sports. The group most closely met the judging criteria and gave a very clear indication of what the £3000 would be spent on.

Well done to all S6 pupils for their hard work during the week!
