KK Beach is very much the latter.

There are just ten ocean-facing suites at this little boutique hotel on Sri Lanka’s south coast. Mornings begin with breakfast by the beach; afternoons might involve a book beneath the palms, a swim in the 20-metre pool and little reason to stray far from the Indian Ocean beyond. Set in Habaraduwa, between Galle and Ahangama, KK Beach is perfectly placed for the occasional foray out, but this is really one for travellers seeking a winter-sun sanctuary rather than a whistle-stop tour of the island.
