There’s a lovely pocket of countryside just beyond Sant Lluís, where Menorca’s familiar dry-stone walls run between open farmland and the south-east coast is never very far away. It’s quieter here, but you can still be on the sands of Binibeca in around 10 minutes.

Villa Pou Nou sits right among it, surrounded by private gardens and mature trees. Inside, exposed beams, rattan, warm wood and colourful tiles give the house plenty of Menorcan character, while a light-filled conservatory opens straight onto the garden. Outside, there’s a large private pool, shaded dining terrace and barbecue, lawns and even a small football pitch.

Four bedrooms sleep eight, making it a lovely choice for families or friends looking for a little more space and privacy. Sant Lluís is close by for restaurants and shops, while Mahón and its beautiful harbour are around 15 minutes away by car.

Mahón Harbour is one of the great places to stay in eastern Menorca, but Cala Rata feels like its own little world. Tucked into a peaceful cove, you have the water on your doorstep and Mahón’s restaurants, markets and shops close by when you want them.

Villa Rata sits right on the waterfront, with panoramic harbour views following you from the house out onto its terraces. Recently renovated, the interiors are bright and contemporary, while outside there’s a private pool and several places to sit and watch the boats and changing light across the water.

The four bedrooms are spread across two levels, including a master suite with its own terrace and an independent poolside suite. That extra separation makes it particularly good for two couples travelling together or families bringing grandparents, without anyone feeling on top of one another.

Binidali is a tiny spot on Menorca’s south coast, known for its sheltered cove, clear Mediterranean water and a much slower pace than some of the island’s busier resorts.

Villa Sandali sits right on the seafront, and the water is very much the focus. The contemporary interiors are bright and pared back, opening onto a large terrace where the private pool, covered dining area and outdoor seating all face straight out towards the Mediterranean.

Ask us when we love Menorca most, and September will always be high on the list.

The summer warmth is still very much here; the sea has had all season to warm up, and temperatures tend to sit comfortably in the mid-20s. But with the busiest weeks of July and August behind us, the island starts to feel a little more relaxed.

It’s a brilliant time for beach days without the peak summer crowds, long lunches that are a little easier to book, walks along the Camí de Cavalls and evenings spent outside long after the sun has gone down.

Plenty is happening too. Early September brings the final fiestas of the summer, including Mahón’s Mare de Déu de Gràcia celebrations, while towns, markets, restaurants and beach bars are still very much part of daily island life.

And, of course, there are our villas. From countryside fincas to homes overlooking the sea, September is a wonderful time to squeeze in one more week in Menorca.

There’s another side to Menorca beyond the coastline. Around Ferreries, the landscape turns green and rural, with old stone walls, winding country lanes and some of the island’s most beautiful stretches of the Camí de Cavalls within easy reach.

Es Canutells is one of those pockets of Menorca that still feels pleasingly removed from things. A small cove, pine-covered coastline and clear water on the island’s south coast, with Mahón close enough when you want a change of pace.

Villa Canutell occupies an extraordinary position above it. The house sits within extensive private gardens, with the Mediterranean filling the view beyond the terraces and pool. Recently renovated, its traditional Menorcan bones have been kept, but the interiors are much more unexpected: brilliant white rooms, large-scale contemporary art, bold furniture and an eclectic, almost gallery-like feel.

There are six en-suite bedrooms and three separate living spaces, so even with twelve people staying, the house never feels crowded. But it’s the setting you remember – the elevated pool, gardens thick with Mediterranean planting and that huge expanse of blue at the edge of almost every view.
