Hidden Gems: Lundin Links

Some golf courses are special because of their views. Others because of their history. Lundin Links has both.

The story behind this Fife gem is fascinating. The original course was split between two clubs, creating what is, quite remarkably, an unintentional collaboration between two of Scotland’s greatest golf course architects: Tom Morris and James Braid.

And the result? A course with a little bit of everything.

From links-style challenges and undulating terrain to strategic holes that reward good course management, Lundin Links offers an enjoyable round with plenty to discover.

It may not always get the same attention as some of Scotland’s more famous links, but that’s exactly what makes it worthy of a place in our Hidden Gems series.

When you stand on the first tee of Old Course at St Andrews, you're standing on a piece of golfing history that has influenced courses around the world.

But did you know..... The Old Course wasn't always 18 holes.

Back in the 18th century, the course had 22 holes - 11 played out and 11 played back.

In 1764, the first four holes were combined to create an 18-hole round. And that simple change at St Andrews helped establish the 18-hole round as the standard we know today. ⛳

And there's another feature that makes the Old Course truly unique...

Its famous seven enormous double greens serve two holes each, meaning the 2nd and 16th share a green, the 3rd and 15th, the 4th and 14th, and so on.

Then there's the iconic Swilcan Bridge, the infamous Hell Bunker, the Road Hole and the legendary closing stretch...

It's easy to see why the Old Course isn't simply a golf course. It's where so much of the game began.

What makes St Andrews so special ?

DID YOU KNOW?

This weekend, Trump International Golf Links in Aberdeenshire welcomes some of the biggest names in senior golf as it hosts the Staysure PGA Seniors Championship.

But did you know...

Built among the spectacular sand dunes of Balmedie, just north of Aberdeen, Trump International Golf Links is one of Scotland's newest championship links courses. Designed by renowned architect Dr Martin Hawtree, it opened in 2012 and has quickly established itself as one of the country's finest modern links layouts.

The towering dunes, dramatic North Sea coastline and ever-changing coastal winds ensure that no two rounds are ever the same, making it a true test for golfers of every ability.

⛳ Another interesting fact: Every hole features six separate tee positions, allowing the course to challenge elite professionals while remaining enjoyable for everyday golfers.

If you're watching the action this weekend, keep an eye out for the spectacular dune landscape that makes this course one of the most visually striking in Scotland.

Have you had the chance to play Trump International Golf Links? We'd love to hear your favourite hole!
