It's National Gardening Week, and gardens everywhere are bursting back into life. But we're not the only ones enjoying them.
Our gardens provide vital shelter for all kinds of wildlife. As gardening jobs return to the top of the to-do list, taking a few extra moments can make all the difference.
๐ฆ Trimming foliage or digging soil? Take a moment to check for wildlife nests before you start.
๐ชน Repairing holes in walls or roofs? Sparrows will soon be nesting, often in buildings. Please check for activity before sealing any gaps.
๐พ Mowing long grass? Walk through it first, hidden burrows and nests can be easily missed. Or why not take part in No Mow May and leave a patch of grass to grow? It can boost nectar for pollinators and increase biodiversity right in your own garden.
๐ฆ Moving old garden materials? Wildlife may be sheltering underneath. Take extra care, especially before lighting bonfires.
๐ธ Have a pond? Frogs and toads are spawning now, so try to keep the water calm and undisturbed while their eggs develop.
A wildlife-friendly garden doesn't have to be complicated. Small actions can have a huge impact for the animals sharing your outdoor space. ๐
