Are you the one everyone leans on? Who do you lean on?

If you're a carer, a parent of a child with special needs, or someone quietly managing your mental health while life keeps demanding more of you, that question might have just landed somewhere deep.

I know the feeling. I live it.

And somewhere along the way, I stopped looking for answers indoors.

The great outdoors didn't fix everything. But it gave me space to breathe. To think. To feel something other than the constant heaviness.

That's why I trained as a Mental Health First Aider. Got certified. Built something I wished had existed when I needed it most… a network to get outdoors into nature and offload the heaviness.

There's something that happens when you're on a quiet trail: the mind settles, conversations open up, and for a while, you're not managing anything apart from the moment.

You're just free.

If that sounds like something you need right now, come walk with me.

What an incredible hike this weekend! ☀️

I promised a beautiful route and stunning sunshine, and somehow nature delivered even more. The walk was fantastic, but relaxing in the village afterwards with cold drinks and great conversations made the day even more special.

Days like these are what summer is all about.

And of course, no great walk is complete without a well-earned coffee afterwards at a lovely local coffee shop.

9 things to do this summer (that aren't staring at a screen)

Your nature to-do list. No WiFi required.

1 🚗 Go on a day trip
Because the best things in life are usually found just beyond where you normally bother to go.

2 🥾 Go on a hike
Fresh air, a proper view, and legs that earned it. Nothing beats that feeling at the top.

3 🌳 Sit under a tree
Doing nothing is actually doing something — trees have been calming humans down for centuries.

4 🦆 Feed the ducks
Unbothered, waddling, absolutely zero stress. Let the ducks teach you something.

5 ⛺ Go camping
Sleep under the stars at least once. You'll spend one night slightly cold (maybe) and return home deeply happy.

6 🔥 Do a BBQ
Food outside just tastes better. Science agrees, and I know. (Probably. Don't fact-check this.)

7 🚲 Ride a bike
Rediscover the pure joy of riding with absolutely no agenda.

8 🎣 Go fishing
You don't even have to catch anything. That's the whole point. Permission to slow down, granted.

9 🚶 Go on a walk
The simplest, oldest, most underrated thing a human can do. Put your shoes on. Go.

🚀 Save this list. Share it with a friend who needs to get outside. 🌿

Wet weekends can be among the best days for outdoor activities, as the weekend just gone by was.

The woods feel richer with colour, the trails quieter (no surprise:), the air is lightly scented, and every mile delivers something different on the adventure.

Don’t be afraid of a little rain — it’s simply part of the season and part of life.

We enjoy no matter the weather!

Who carries you?

Often, we become so focused on supporting everyone else that we quietly neglect ourselves. We push through under immense pressure because life (and people around us) expect us to keep going.

But even the strongest people need rest and support.

Checking in on yourself is not selfish. Protecting “you” matters. Rest matters. Talking matters. Remember, you cannot continuously pour from an empty cup.

Take care of yourself with the same energy you give to others.

Nature Kicks, your walking partner, is always there to help support you!

Unlocking my best self.

I often park up deep in the woods, surrounded by nature, simply to inspire my thoughts and find creative flow. There’s something incredibly powerful about stepping away from noise and routine.

Nature has a way of revitalising the mind and creating dynamic awareness that, in my opinion, helps thoughts move more freely and naturally… Ever wonder why writers find a cabin in the woods to smash out chapters?

I genuinely believe that nature enhances whatever we are working on or seeking. Whether it’s writing, problem-solving, healing emotionally, planning life or simply trying to think clearly, the outdoors reconnects us with ourselves in ways modern environments often cannot.

On this day, I was working on some content for my next book (not taking photographs as such, although I did take photos of my location).

Honestly, it would never have carried the same energy or flow had I been sitting at my office desk or in a coffee shop. Nature is my conduit for sure. It opens parts of my creativity that feel dormant elsewhere.

I know this isn’t the case for everyone. But often, we just need space. Space to think. Space to breathe. Space to feel inspired again.

🚨 I’d genuinely love to know… where is your special “mind flow” place? Comment to let me know.

I wanted to share my thoughts on mental health.

Mental Health Awareness Month is important to me because life has challenged me in many ways over the years. Through those experiences, I’ve learned that being in a strong place isn't just physical; it’s deeply mental, too.

For a long time, I believed I always had to keep going because life expects you to. Responsibilities, pressures, caring for others, work, family, goals. But I’ve learned that rest is not weakness. Sleep matters. Slowing down matters. Creating “me” time matters.

Sometimes the strongest thing you can do is pause and protect yourself before exhaustion takes over.

One thing I consciously avoid is negative confrontation. Not because I can’t handle it, but because I’ve realised how draining negative energy can be. I’d rather radiate goodness, calmness and positivity where I can.

I’m also naturally social, and I genuinely love speaking to people. I enjoy learning about others, hearing their stories, and allowing them to open up to me, and me to open up to them.

Honest conversations are powerful. Human connection is powerful. To me, that is good mental fitness.

Of course, I still stress over responsibilities and parts of life. I don’t think that ever fully disappears. But I try to condition myself to stress less, so when life unexpectedly forces me to “drop the ball,” I’m mentally stronger and better prepared to handle it.

And honestly, talking is one of the best things you can do. Opening up to family or friends can change everything. Never underestimate the power of conversation.

Just to let you know, I’m happy to talk if you ever need to.

Whenever life feels overwhelming, I return to the things I love. I walk. I cycle. I cook meals in nature. I create art through photography. I write my thoughts into my notebook. I speak to new people on walks or make a conscious effort to connect with strangers I meet.

Those little moments are powerful and reconnect me with myself.
