Victory for Campsie 🔴⚫️
We welcomed fellow newcomers Helensburgh FFIT to High Park, in what was their first match as a team.
We warned the boys pre-match about complacency and highlighted the fantastic result we picked up in our first fixture as a team, back in October.
In the opening stages, they certainly took heed of our warning and came out the traps flying.
On 8 minutes, we were awarded a central free kick on the edge of the box & Jordan Sweeney Gothic Glitters Alternative Headwear made no mistake when he beat the wall and found the back of the net.
We only had to wait another 2 minutes for Nicky Collins Easyreach loft ladders to get off the mark with a fantastic strike from 20 yards out which left the keeper with no chance.
We extended our lead to 3-0 on 13 minutes, with Sweeney dinking the ball over the advancing goalkeeper.
3 minutes later, Scott McDonald Family & Autism Friendly Holidays Craig Tara was able to beat the offside trap and lift the ball over the keeper to make it 4-0.
Only a minute later, we made it 5 through Nicky Collins who got on the end of a delightful ball played across the box by Sweeney for an easy tap in.
The game came to abrupt halt shortly after due to a very bad injury sustained by one of the Helensburgh players. We want to wish the lad all the very best in his recovery from what was a freak accident after a committed challenge from both players.
This stoppage seemed to knock a bit of the stuffing from us and we lost the momentum we had & Helensburgh were able to take advantage of this, within a minute of the restart with a good finish.
On 41 minutes, we were back at it again and Sweeney was able to complete his second ‘first half hat trick’ in 2 matches, after some great play from Ross Bothwell (Mindshift experiences) who was able to work the ball into the box and allowed Sweeney to capitalise on a misjudgement by the Helensburgh keeper.
On the stroke of half time, Helensburgh pulled one back after we failed to deal with a corner into the box and the ball was turned over the line.
Half time - 6-2
We asked the boys to up the game again in the second half & they got off to a fantastic start on 46 minutes, when Sweeney was able to finish off a fantastic passage of team play by losing his man and slotting it by the keeper.
On 50 minutes, we extended our lead when Helensburgh weren’t able to deal with a ball across the box and their defender put it into the back of his own net.
Helensburgh pulled one back on the hour mark, when we didn’t deal with a ball over the top properly and their striker was able to slot it home.
On 65 we extended our lead again, after a delightful ball from Stuart King Fit Thru Life with a knock on from Sweeney left Nicky to round the keeper for a tap in.
Sweeney made it 5 for himself on the day after some fantastic play out wide by Ross, leaving Sweeney to finish low to the keepers left.
We wrapped up the Campsie goals on 81 minutes, when sub James Stewart The Dorcas Charitable Trust lost his man in the box to calmly slot it by the keeper for our 11th goal of the day.
In the last 10 minutes, the boys switched off, and credit to Helensburgh they took advantage, pulling 2 goals back to end the game 11-5.
Overall a fantastic performance from the boys.
Helensburgh set up well and will do well moving forward, with some fantastic players in their ranks.
Thanks for coming up to us this afternoon & again, we want to wish the player who went off with the bad injury the very best in his recovery.
