My name is Ayesha Gavin, and I am a profoundly deaf native user of British Sign Language. I am also able to use English fluently and to a high level. I hold a BA (Hons) degree in Experience of Writing and Film & Television Studies (1998), a Post Graduate Certificate in Education (2004) and a level 3 NVQ in BSL. cations was created in 2010 in response to many enquiries about private tuition in British Sign Language and Deaf Awareness for individuals and small groups. In 2025 we rebranded to Heart of BSL as we celebrated our 15th birthday. We are a registered and approved centre with Signature, the awarding body in Sign Language qualifications.

Today is Russian Language Day.

Russian Sign Language, which belongs to the French family of signed languages, is used by around 120,000 Deaf people in Russia (number from the 2010 census) and has a possible additional presence in Belarus and Tajikistan.

Although RSL is legally recognized in Russia, it does not enjoy state support and there is a lack of skilled RSL interpreters in the country.
