Well-dressed Peaks! 🌸

It’s well worth a visit to the Peak District’s towns at any time of the year, but a visit during the summer offers the chance to take part in a tradition that has been ongoing in these parts since at least the 1300’s.

The well-dressing tradition sees local people decorate the wells in bright colours, using a wooden frame and local clay before adding in natural materials like leaves, moss, seeds and pebbles to create a design. Once complete, a blessing ceremony traditionally takes place, followed by celebrations including a carnival, which draws in crowds from surrounding areas.
