Did you know that The Chester Tour has been running for more than 50 years at 10.30 am daily? And in the summer there are extra tours at 2pm on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays.

It's a great introduction to the city for any Bank Holiday visit and is led by our experienced Blue and Green Badge Guides, including me!!

Heritage Open Days is coming home to Chester — 11–20 September 🏛️

This year's theme? Everyday History Heroes.

From the volunteers who keep our historic buildings alive to the hidden figures who shaped our streets, we're celebrating the people behind Cheshire's story -the ones you won't always find in the textbooks.

Over 10 days, expect free events, tours, talks and hands-on experiences across the city and beyond - including Chester Town Hall, Bishop Lloyd's Palace, hidden Rows buildings, Cheshire Military Museum, and plenty more waiting to be discovered.

✨️ Plus, by popular demand, the Shot Tower and Water Tower open days are back! ✨️

With the start of the new football season well and truly underway, we begin a new run of dates for the Wrexham City Guided Tours hosted by myself and fellow Green Badge Guide, Peter Evans Tour Guide and Author.

I'll be leading the tour this coming Saturday, 22nd August, at 11 am starting from Wrexham Visitor Information Centre, where you can purchase tickets (also available on Eventbrite).

On the walk, we'll take a look at Wrexham both old and new, including a look back 150 years to 1876 Wrexham's Year of Wonder., as well as to the future and the recently launched bid for City of Culture Wrecsam2029.

After a last minute change of plans, I had a day to myself and feeling in need of some sea air, I headed up to Crosby, home since 2005 of Anthony Gormley's Another Place, 100 haunting figures dotted along the beach and looking out to sea.

It was lovely walk along a stretch of the English Coastal Path with some incredible views to the Wirral and Wales beyond. And I only brought half the beach home with me in my shoes!!

This was all prompted by a conversation with a friend about what to include in his planned trip to Liverpool. Obviously a day trip to Chester was top of my list😀but there really is so much to explore in this part of the world. He was already adding days to his trip - and that was without venturing into North Wales!! I'm lucky to have all of this on my doorstep.

UK City of Culture 2029 isn’t just a title. This bid isn’t just a document. It’s thousands of conversations, years of creativity, generations of stories, and a huge belief in what Wrexham already is, and what it can be.
