NEPAL IS OPEN β€” AND READY FOR AUTUMNπŸ‡³πŸ‡΅

Following the devastating floods and landslides in parts of Nepal this summer, we've been keeping closely in touch with our trusted local partners on the ground.

The good news is that most of Nepal's key tourism destinations remain open and ready to welcome visitors, with the autumn trekking and touring season beginning in October.

We've put together this update to explain where you can travel, where there has been localised disruption, and why visiting Nepal this autumn could make a real difference to the communities and businesses that rely on tourism.

❀️ Tourism supports local guides, porters, drivers, hotels, restaurants and countless small businesses and communities across Nepal.

If Nepal has been on your travel list, now is a great time to start planning your 2026 adventure.

From Himalayan trekking and luxury stays to ancient cities and incredible wildlife, we'd love to help you create your own tailor-made journey.

Nepal is open. Nepal is ready. And Nepal is waiting to welcome you. πŸ‡³πŸ‡΅

One Himalaya is a boutique tour operator specialising in luxury and adventure travel in the Himalayas. Nepal in particular holds a very special place in my heart. I’ve been fortunate to spend a great deal of time there over the years, travelling through the country and, more importantly, getting to know some of its wonderful people. It’s a place that has given me so many incredible memories, friendships and experiences.

Just a few days ago, on Wednesday morning, I woke to videos and messages from friends and colleagues in Nepal showing the devastating floods of 26 August. It was shocking and heart-breaking. As the scale of the loss and devastation has become clearer over the past few days, it has been difficult to comprehend.

My thoughts are with everyone affected by the floods along the Nepal–Tibet border, with the families who have lost loved ones, those still waiting for news, and the communities facing the enormous task of recovering and rebuilding.

I’m very thankful that all of our friends, colleagues and clients are safe, and that we have no clients currently in the affected areas.

The people of Nepal are incredibly strong, resilient, brave, independent, warm and welcoming. But however strong and resilient we are, there are times when we all need help. Right now, practical help is desperately needed β€” for search and rescue, food, shelter, medical support, equipment and the many other things people need in the aftermath of a disaster like this.

The Red Cross is active on the ground in Nepal and is providing humanitarian support to affected communities, working alongside the Nepalese Army, Authorities and other organisations.

I am making a donation myself today, and I’d like to ask anyone who is able to do so to consider joining me.

If Nepal has ever touched your heart, or if you simply want to help people who are facing an incredibly difficult time, please consider making a donation. Every contribution, however large or small, can make a difference. Thank you.πŸ™

And when the immediate crisis has passed, one of the best ways we can continue to support Nepal is to keep visiting. Tourism is hugely important to the livelihoods of communities across the country, and the warmth of the welcome we receive there is something I hope we can continue to share.

Our upcoming trips to Nepal are unaffected and will continue, and our guests will be welcomed as warmly as ever.

For now, our thoughts, prayers and solidarity are with Nepal β€” and with everyone affected by this devastating disaster.

Our thoughts and prayers go out to the people of Nepal and Tibet. Words aren't enough.πŸ’”

Happy New Year everyone!

Today, 14th April marks the start of the New Year in Nepal. It also marks the start of the year 2083 in Nepal - the Nepali calendar is ahead of the Gregorian calendar by around 56 to 57 years.

If you're in Nepal in April (a wonderful time for trekking, safaris and visiting generally) you can celebrate New Year again, as well as the January New Year most of us are used to!
