Over the last six months, we have been busy maintaining and repairing the 17 miles/27km of footpaths we have on the Balmacara Estate. We aim to manage these paths to reduce erosion and damage to the landscape, while also helping people to explore the area 🥾⛏🙂.

VOLUNTEER LIVESTOCK CHECKERS WANTED
We are looking for volunteers to help us check our 6 lovely Shetland cows. The cows need to be checked daily, and while we already have a few volunteers and staff checking them there are gaps in our rota. An ideal candidate would be able to make a regular time commitment, checking the cows once or twice a week on the same day each week (there is room for flexibility).

There are a number of benefits with the role, including training and experience working with livestock, discounts on parking and entry to all NTS properties, and if needed it makes for good CV material.

We are running an Easter Trail at Balmacara Square on Friday 18th April, 11am to 4pm. Tickets still available, but limited. Please purchase tickets through the link below. We are unable to accept cash or card payments in person.

There will also be a mini-market at the Cosy Corner Cafe featuring stalls, games and more

A reminder that we're hosting a drop-in session tomorrow for residents of Lochalsh who are interested in the Gaelic placenames and oral histories of the area. Mairead Bush (Gaelic Development Officer for Wester Ross) will be there to chat about local placenames and any histories that people wish to share. Researchers from the University of Stirling will also be available to chat about a project investigating how people value the area. NTS staff will also be present to provide updates on current activity including the Estate Vision, conservation grazing and the Atlantic Rainforest.
