After spending a second night at the Refuge du Carro. Today , David and I climbed up to the Col de l’Ouille Noire. We then had an excellent descent on spring snow putting in fresh tracks all the way to La Duis where the terrain flattens out.

David and I have been ski touring today above the Refuge du Carro. We climbed the Aiguille Percee to a snow summit just before the main summit before having a good ski down.

After this we skinned to the Col des Pariotes before having another nice ski down to the hut.

David and I ski toured today to the Refuge du Carro where we are overnighting. The road to L’Ecot is still snow covered so we started from Bonneval-sur-Arc which makes for a fairly long day.

Stunning scenery throughout though.

Andy had a look at today's forecast and sensibly decided it wasn't a hill day.

This left me with a free day in the Lochaber area, so I chose to head up a couple of lower hills I hadn't visited before; Tom Meadhoin and Creag Bhreac above Loch Leven. With strong winds and driving heavy rain/hail showers there were times when I questioned my choice. However, the occasional break in the cloud gave good views and there was even a brief sighting of an eagle with attendent corvids.

Andy and I chose to hide from the wind on our climb today and headed for Coire Dearg on Mullach nan Coirean. We did catch the wind on our way over the summit on the way down.

Significant quantities of fresh unconsolidated snow around above about 700m.

Grand day out today with Iain ski touring and mountaineering to the summit of Point 3491m, Cima di Furggen from Cervinia.

Superb scenery all day and always in the shadow of the Matterhorn.

Simon and I made a very pleasant traverse of Beinn Ceitlein and Stob Dubh in Glen Etive today. The snow was mostly recent and gently thawing, so we didn't need to put crampons on, but an ice axe was useful particularly when descending Stob Dubh's steep south-east ridge.

Big thanks to Mac for sending through some excellent photos from yesterday's trip to Beinn a'Chreachain.

It definitely felt like we earned that summit.
