The Little Brass Bash is BACK in Barney for 2026 🎉

Durham Brass Festival comes to Barnard Castle on Tuesday 14th July, with a free evening of live brass at The Witham.

This year’s line-up brings together Loud Noises , a four-piece brass outfit mixing acoustic brass with dance energy; Back Chat Brass , a Leeds band rooted in pop, funk and hip hop and She's Got Brass London’s 10-piece all-female brass band.

St Romald’s Church, Romaldkirk - one of those churches that feels as if it has grown out of the village itself. It is Grade I listed, and what you see now is the result of centuries of change, with work from the Norman period onwards. The place is so closely tied to the settlement that Romaldkirk quite literally takes its name from the church.

I like this view because it catches that mix of strength and quiet detail - the solid tower, the Gothic windows, the old gravestones and the first hints of spring in the churchyard. It has long been known as the “Cathedral of the Dales”, and standing here, it is easy to see why.
