We’re going to be talking about the skin types, how to spot yours and the end goal! The ultimate goal is to balance the skins barrier functions. 🌟
These are your 4 basic skin types. They are determined cion, avoid by genetics! You may have seen other skin types before skin of oils such as acneic skin, sensitive skin, mature skin, dehydrated skin, however these are more skin conditions rather than genetically determined types🤩
Normal skin: the luckiest skin type and the goal we try to make all skin types function like. They have an overall oil-water balance, usually blemish free, and may fluctuate depending on seasons. The goal is to maintain everything✨
Combination (combo) skin: this skin can either be oily cess oil production normal or oily-dry. The Zone usually has increased oil production, visible pores, whereas the outer portions are either normal or dry and flaky. Fun fact: this is the most up common skin type worldwide. The goal is to balance the oil-water in the skin. Make sure you’re not using too harsh of products which can strip the skin, leading to increased oil production, dehydration, and ultimately more dryness.✨
Dry skin: the skin doesnt produce enough oils, also referred to as alipidic skin. Pores are usually small or invisible, the acid mantle and barrier functions are not healthy due to lack of oil (the acid mantle is made up of oils). The goal is to increased oil production to balance the skin. Make sure to use occlusive products to trap moisture in reducing risk of TEWL.✨
Oily skin: the skin produces excess oil, also referred to as lipidic skin. Pores are large and visible, prone to acne due to buildup of oil + dead skin cells that clogs the pore. The goal is to balance oil production; fun fact, oily skin can be a sign of severely dehydrated skin. Avoid harsh cleansers because they can strip the skin leading to increased oil production.✨
