DIFFERENT TYPES OF BREAKS! 💙

Being a neurodivergent family of five (+ dog!), we understand the importance of different types of holidays and breaks, to meet a whole range of different needs. No one family is the same, no one holiday is the same, and that is something we understand!

At Sungate, we offer 3. 4 and 7 night stays and book a variety of different holidays. These include: respite breaks for foster carers and autistic children or adults, weekend stays or longer holidays for parent carers and their families, as well as holidays and breaks for grandparents and the extended family.

Sungate has 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms, plus plenty of space, which enables guests to be flexible when they book.

We can add in, or remove sensory equipment according to each family’s needs, and we can also reconfigure rooms!

In order to be as inclusive as possible, Sungate accepts Family Fund vouchers for families on a low income.

We have kept prices down for the last 2 years, with a short stay starting at just £360!!

We are dog friendly too 🐾

We know that some autistic children and adults enjoy staying during lively holiday season, and others prefer quieter off peak times.

Sungate is open 365 days a year, during both the school holidays and term time.

We want to meet a variety of needs and requests, to enable as many autistic adults, children and families as possible to enjoy a break or holiday. This year, we’re happy to say we are welcoming many families back for their second or third holiday!

Special requests! 💙

Check in day, and our guest family have asked that one single mattress is laid on the floor of the twin room, for flexible sleeping 😊

We provide a personalised booking service so that we can meet each family’s individual sensory, safety and sleep needs - we were very happy to help today’s family with this request 💙

The kids have a fun Sensory Corner, with indoor swing, trampoline, hula hoops and whizzy dizzy spin chair, all set up for them when they arrive too! 😊

⚠️ SUNGATE’S SAFETY FEATURES ⚠️

We’ve had a lot of queries recently about what makes autism friendly Sungate a safe place to stay, so we thought we’d reshare Sungate’s SAFETY FEATURES with you.

When talking to families with autistic loved ones, safety comes up as a top priority.

Having an autistic son with complex needs, we know just how important safety is.

Sungate has been adapted with a range of safety features, including:

⚠️ the house is set away from the main road, providing a peaceful setting and views of Bath. There is on site parking available right beside the house.

⚠️ Sungate is a single storey bungalow (no stairs to navigate or block off)

⚠️ doors and windows are lockable, windows have safety restrictors

⚠️ there is underfloor heating throughout (no radiators)

⚠️ Sungate has integrated and hidden wires. We have tried, where possible, to reduce the number of exposed wires around the house, for example, TV and DVD wires are fitted within the chimney breast in the lounge, the bedside lights in the main bedroom are fitted to the wall.

⚠️ no trinkets! Sungate is a clutter free zone, avoiding overstimulation and, hopefully, breakages! It is a spacious and light home from home.

⚠️ lockable cupboards. Cupboards in the kitchen are controlled using magnetic locks. There is also a lockable waste bin built into the kitchen cupboards.

⚠️ lockable appliances. The washer dryer, oven, and hob all have a child lock. The microwave and iron have automatic shut off.

⚠️ the main bathroom has thermostatically controlled bath taps to prevent scalding, and a sensor sink tap to prevent flooding.

⚠️ all rooms are fitted with safety blinds.

⚠️ Safe Place bed and bed guards available for secure sleeping.

⚠️ light switches for the twin, king bedroom and lounge can be turned off remotely using isolator switches located in a kitchen cupboard, and the single bedroom light switch has a lockable cover (to prevent repeated switching on/off of lights)

⚠️ the utility room with washing machine can be locked, and so can the bathrooms.

⚠️ outside there is an enclosed lockable sensory courtyard.

Lots of sensory equipment and sunflowers for today’s check in!🌻

Guests have requested the indoor swing, Whizzy Dizzy spin chair, trampoline, and Safe Place bed for their stay.

There’s also egg chairs, hula hoops, the floor mat, crawl tunnel, sensory toy box and galaxy lights to enjoy.

🌈📚Central Library Sensory Space (10 mins) found in the heart of the city, this is a calming and soothing place for children to regulate

🏛️📖 Bath Heritage Centre (10 mins) found in the city centre, there are staff on hand to recommend places to visit, plus interactive things to look at about our World Heritage City

🛍️🎶 Southgate centre and Milsom street (12 mins) plenty of pretty shops, stalls and cafes to wander round and look at, as well as enjoying Bath’s famous street performers and buskers. Enjoy the famous Georgian architecture of Milsom street.
