November is National Epilepsy Awareness month 💜

This year’s theme is ‘where community sparks hope’ highlighting the power of shared voices and connection.

Many autistic children and adults have co-occuring health conditions, such as epilepsy

Like autism, epilepsy can be a hidden disability, with some seizures and symptoms being brief and difficult to spot

We understand that co-occuring conditions can have an impact on autism, and vice versa.

We understand that this can make holidays, even short breaks, difficult, without the right support or sensory environment.

We’ve specially adapted Sungate with this in mind. In addition, we are here to answer any questions you may have, to provide video tours and social stories, to try and take the stress out of staying somewhere new.

Check in day, and the Sungate lounge has full Halloween glow up, including our colour changing fireplace! 💚🧡

In addition to Sungate’s many sensory and safe adaptations, our guest family have requested the cocoon swing, whizzy spin chair and trampoline, together with the egg chair, crawl tunnel, and sensory toy box in our Sensory Corner 🤸‍♀️🎧

We’ve also provided coffee and hot chocolate and our award winning cakes on arrival, plus sensory popping lollipops and chocolate Roman coins for the kids 😊

There’s lots to do in Bath this weekend, with the Revolting Remedies trail at The Roman Baths, Moments of Light at Dorothy House, Enchanted Nights at the American Museum & Gardens, and of course Bath City Farm just a 5 minute walk away. More autism friendly places to visit can be found in our app, available when you book a stay at Sungate 💙

We’ve no doubt our guests will have a spooktacular time! 🧡

At Sungate, we personalise every booking, swapping in and out sensory and safety equipment according to each family’s needs.

Our guest family have also requested the swing and trampoline for the Sensory Corner, plus the portable door gate, lockable nappy bin, waterproof mattress and mini laser projector.

We’ve provided sensory sweet treats, fresh flowers and aromatherapy gifts as welcome gifts too.

We also share an app full of autism friendly places to visit in and around Bath, as well as seasonal autism friendly events that are happening during your stay.

An autumn glow up for today’s check in 🧡

Our guest family can look forward to plenty of play equipment in our Sensory Corner, including:

- indoor swing
- trampoline
- whizzy seat
- cocoon chair
- hula hoops, crawl tunnel and floor mat
- box of fidget toys and games
- plus some fun balloons!

We have also provided the mini wall laser, waterproof mattress, extra blackout blind and lockable nappy bin for our extra safe, calming single room.

In addition to our unique safety adaptations and sensory equipment, we’ve provided delicious award winning millionaire cakes, sensory sweets and chocolate Roman coins to enjoy on arrival - yum!

Sungate’s autism friendly adaptations - WATER FEATURES! 🚿💙

Being a neurodivergent family, we know all too well how water can evoke strong reactions in autistic children and adults, including joy, comfort, anxiety, or repetitive behaviours.

Water can both regulate and disregulate autistic people, and so it’s important that Sungate’s water features meet a range of sensory and safety needs.

These include:

• Clearly labelled hot and cold taps in the kitchen, with noise reducing composite sink

• Sensor tap in the main bathroom, to help prevent flooding. This tap can also help to reduce water anxiety, with some children calling it the ‘magic tap’!

• Lockable bathroom and shower room

• Thermostatically controlled taps in both the bath and
shower room, to help prevent scalding

• Quiet Mark fans and soft close toilets for those who are sensitive to noise

• bathroom underfloor heating and heated towel rails for comfort

• warm white lighting to regulate

• Powder Rain shower in the small wet room which is gentle and soft, for those who are sensory sensitive

• lockable utility room with washer dryer and room to hang laundry

• Complimentary aromatherapy vegan hand wash and shower gel

So families, carers and loved ones can relax and enjoy their break at Sungate, knowing everybody’s needs have been met 💙
