Two dogs (and their family!) are checking in to Sungate today, and so we’ve provided two dog beds 🐾🐾

The family have also requested the indoor swing, trampoline, bed guards and portable door gate.

The sun is out and there’s plenty to do! There are lots of dog friendly places to visit too, more details can be found in our Sungate app 💙

We love how autistic sensory needs are being acknowledged more in society, and we recently posted about Longleat’s new SEN signage around it’s wildlife park 👏👏

This new website will definitely help Sungate families plan their outings too 🚾🚻

We love the photos of our Sungate guests on this 🏛️⛲️

Did you know that Bath is the UK’s only World Heritage city?

Bath has around 5,000 listed buildings, and is one of the only places in the UK where you can bathe in the thermal water that comes directly from the natural hot springs deep beneath the city. Bath is so beautiful, that it features in many famous films and TV series, such as the Wonka movie and Bridgerton 💖

There are even more World Heritage Sites within easy reach of Bath, offering a fascinating day out during your stay in the city. The mysterious Stonehenge, for example, is just under an hour's drive from Bath.

MEETING SENSORY NEEDS AT SUNGATE!

For neurodivergent families like ours, being on holiday can often cause disregulation, simply because the environment just isn’t adapted to meet need.

Or perhaps, if somewhere has been adapted, this has been for sensory seekers only. But what about those who are sensory sensitive?

Our autistic son Henry is both sensory seeking and sensory sensitive - this diagram is Henry to a tee!

We have learned a lot about sensory needs on our journey with Henry, and Sungate has been designed with this in mind, with a range of adaptations for 𝙗𝙤𝙩𝙝 sensory seekers and those who are sensory sensitive.

Some of Sungate’s adaptations are discreet, such as hidden wires and cupboard locks, underfloor heating and sound insulated walls. Others are more obvious, such as our famous Sensory Corner 💙

Hello, we are Tamsin and David and we would like to welcome you to Sungate, our truly autism friendly holiday home in the beautiful city of Bath.

Sungate has been lovingly adapted to meet the needs of autistic children, young people and adults, their families and carers.

Sungate has a range of features and adaptations we couldn’t find anywhere else when we went on holiday with our autistic son in the UK. The accommodation was too cluttered, too noisy or overwhelming for him. Other holiday homes just didn’t cater for our son’s autism, his ADHD, his sensory difficulties. This meant that by the time we got home, we all needed another holiday!!

We decided to speak to other families, autistic children and adults, about their experiences and realised that many others felt the same way we did. They wanted an autism friendly place to stay, but just could not find anything suitable. They wanted holidays in beautiful locations too, but just could not find anywhere to meet their needs. We knew something had to change…and so Sungate was born!

Sungate is truly special, boasting a range of unique autism friendly features. These include:

We love Bath and want our guests to love it too! Whether it’s a short walk to nearby Bath city farm, or a visit to the Roman Baths, winner of an autism friendly award, we have tried to include places you can visit to enjoy an autism friendly holiday in the World Heritage city.

We also welcome non-autistic, neurotypical families and think you would also enjoy staying at Sungate too!

The Sensory Corner looks super on this warm and sunny check in day! 😊

With plenty of activities to choose from in Bath this Easter holiday - including feeding the lambs at Bath City Farm, digging for Roman treasures at The Roman Baths, flying a bird at The Bird of Prey Project or travelling on a steam train at Avon Valley Railway - our guest family are in for a treat! 💙

Places to visit 💙🐾

Just a couple of photos taken today on our visit to Westonbirt Arboretum. Westonbirt is a 30 minute drive from Sungate - with beautiful trees, Stick Man and Wallace and Gromit trails, interactive play area, plus the famous tree top bridge, it’s well worth a visit during your stay.

It’s also a chance to remind you that, as well as being autism friendly and family friendly, Sungate is dog friendly too 🐾

Lots of sensory equipment for check in today 😊

The family have requested the swing and trampoline board in the Sensory Corner, the Safe Place bed, extra blackout blind, bed guard and portable door gate.

The Safe Place bed has a new waterproof protector which is pretty and comfortable (you can catch a glimpse of it in the photos). All of these extras help our guests to have a relaxing holiday at Sungate 💙
